BP Fantasy Baseball (2008-2023, Current Champion = MD Buckeye)

I don’t know how being able to throw a ball over a certain MPH meant that hitting a baseball became infinitely harder but it sounds like bullshit to me.

There was time when pitchers made normal salaries and some of them had hitting bonuses. They would actually work on hitting. They also knew they'd be pitching a lot of innings so the best way to help themselves was to be able to hit.

Now a guy gets paid millions to pitch even if he swings a bat worse than my dead grandmother. He's not likely to have more than 2 ABs in a game, if that, because he's only going 6 innings (maybe). So why risk injuring himself doing something he'll rarely do and adds nothing to his compensation? Sure there are a few exceptions, but most of them just want to get the AB over with and go back to the dug out.

That's why I now favor the DH after being opposed to it for years. I want to see hitters hit and pitchers pitch rather than cling to pitchers making shitty plate appearances in the name of tradition.

Then what’s the point of a nine man batting order any more? 8 players on the field get paid to hit. Let 8 of them bat. Better yet, let 7 hit since apparently catchers only work on crouching and can’t hit for shit, either. When the other team is batting, your team has 9 guys on the field. Those 9 should bat. It seems simple. That’s the team, those 9. Pinch hit? Sure. But a guy who sits on his ass in the dugout and gets to hit 3-4 times a game while never putting on a glove? Ridiculous.

New rule. Keep the DH but a DH only gets to bat once. Next time, it’s gotta be a new hitter. Make some phony-ass baseball playing AL team carry 4 extra guys to hit at the expense of carrying pitchers who, like, help a team win, too.

Hey, just remembered something;

We had discussed not using the catcher position in 2019 at one point as they are all essentially useless hitters and an empty roster spot

Any interest in revisiting that or is it too much complexity for @Jake ?

Just for that I'm making it a three catcher league.

So I let a buddy know there was a spot open. I’m fine with someone from BP getting first dibs in the league. An all BP league is what this should be but if nobody wants the open spot, my buddy might be interested.

I'd prefer to keep it all BP but finding subs here is often a PITA or we get someone who bails before the draft.

Any takers?

You can do a roto league with 9 players. Just sayin'. I'd rather do that than get some clown like "Serious" in just to make it 10 teams.

Maybe we just stick with the 9 returnees, try roto this year, and have 2-3 keepers. Next year we can try to fill the 10th spot and go back to a full redraft H2H league?

Thoughts?

I would still like a 10th. I know I said I’d be fine going roto, and that remains true if it comes to it, but I like the H2H format and the fact that it adds a little more fun to the day to day of the league. It also adds to the thread when you can bitch and moan to another member about the barrel sized cock you took in a given week.

When is the draft? I’d be able to draft a team in the evening as long as it’s after March 15th. Once I finish the field training aspect I should be good to go, just no can do prior to that weekend.

If I recall the last draft, or maybe prior year, was on or around March 21st. Time to start back digging through this thread to see.

Edit: last year’s draft was March 28th.
