The Packers did Farve no favors by letting Rivera and Wahle go in the off season and signing zero players to shore up the defense. I don't think we will ever see Farve play another play-off game. That team needs alot of things to become good again.

He's got a Super Bowl ring, and a pile of offensive records, and never needs to answer to anybody but himself and his family. Nobody else on the planet has reasonable cause to suggest that he should retire because he's "not that good anymore." You concerned for his health or safety? Fine, express it. But stop calling for the man's head.

Regarding "feeling bad" for the guy, there can't be too many players in the league right now with shittier luck than Favre. He graced this Packer team with his presence for another year, and they lose their top wideout, their top two backs, their return man, a starting linebacker, and god knows what else to injury. They lose games on 56-yard field goals, and have potential game-changing drives altered by drunk, inbred Cincinatti white trash. I guarantee you this - Favre doesn't want anyone's pity. Nevertheless, not feeling bad for a guy that lives and dies on the field having to spend the golden years of his career being thrashed week in and week out, just because he's going to go to the Hall of Fame...that's a little stupid. You think Favre gives a shit right now about going to the Hall of Fame? My guess is he'd trade that in in a heartbeat for another shot at a Super Bowl. If you just plain don't like the guy, that's cool too. Hell, I admire your ability to buck the trend.

Bottom line? The league is better with Brett Favre in it. I hope he plays until he wins another Super Bowl, because that's what he deserves.

Sir, I know Michael Jordan, and Brett Favre is no Michael Jordan. In football, your 'as close to' choice would be Jim Brown. In other team sports, Gretzky and Babe Ruth are valid comparisons. Favre is a sure HOF'er, but Elway was better.

Everyone the team is hurt. As a huge Packers fan, I really hate to see what is happening over there. With healthy players, I think the Pack could be .500 at this point at least. Favre is not having a good season because he has no RB and no targets to pass to, literally. Props for passing Elway last night btw :wink:

Brett is a great QB, but he's definitely no Gretzky. Wayne is close to being above jordan (Jordan is a bigger figure, but Gretzky is way more dominant in statistics).

Favre is done. He isn't really washed up, he just is a high-risk QB who always made crazy throws. Now there is no defense to give him a cushion, no running game to offset the rush, and no receivers to catch his passes.

jwins, I was comparing Gretz & the Babe to MJ. I agree that Favre isn't in a class by himself like the other names I mentioned.

coastal, 5 Super Bowl appearances to 2 is a good reason why.

gretzky was more famous in canada than jordan was in the us. wayne started playing games on hockey night in canada (equal to a MNF) as a kid. i believe he was 12 the first time his team was on national tv.

agreed, which is why I think Gretzsky rivals Jordan, as heretical as that may sound. The worldwide market of Jordan is what keeps him in this race. Sadly, now Gretsky's absurd statistics might be reached with the revolutionary changes to the rules to promote more offense.

Nobody compares to Gretzky... not even Jordan. He played pro at 17 and was pretty amazing at 18 .

As far a Elway being better than Favre.... BB73... I just lost respect for you :wink:

6 Championships for MJ, 4 for Gretzky. But for individual scoring dominance, I agree that #99 is in his own ballpark. Lemieux might have gotten within the same area code, but wouldn't have caught him, if Mario hadn't had Hodgkins disease and back problems, and the league hadn't allowed so much clutching the last 10 years.

I won't get into Pele at 17. :biggrin:

And for the other thing, I lived in Wisconsin for a year, but I've been in Chicago for many moons now, so I can't give Favre too much credit.
