I have never called anybody a name on BP before but you are clearly an idiot.

Kerry Coombs is responsible for signing almost every single one of UC's 3 or 4 star recruits over the last two seasons. Go talk to Spect...he'll tell you to your dumb face that KC was the exact reason why Massa chose UC.

Get a clue, kid.

Meh, I should have been more specific. I said he had little effect on recruiting in general without specifying that I was talking about recruits from Cincinnati. Looking forward, we're talking in the context of ND recruiting Cincinnati too. Most of the recruits they have shown interest in from Cincinnati in recent years have been from the GCL. Coombs doesn't have anywhere near as much pull there. I don't buy that him following BK to ND would provide much incremental value as far as recruiting Cincinnati kids is concerned.

I don't care what you say about Massa, and there's no need to ask Coach Specht, guarantee I know a lot more about that one than you. The fact is his decision had a lot more to do with his options than Coombs' involvement. If he had gotten offers that were more than marginally better than UC (which offers the benefit of staying home), he ends up elsewhere, no matter what Coombs has to say. I'll leave it at that.

My advice to you, Coach Kelly...man....sir. Is to start eating heavily. A standard has been set, and it must be met or, dare I say it, exceeded. You're on the right track, but more training is necessary.

Fortunately for you, Coach Kelly...man...sir, you are an hour away from the street food capital of the universe: hot dog stands on every corner, Deep dish pizza, italian/polish/bratwurst sausage sandwiches, Harold's Fried Chicken....MR FRICKIN' BEEF!

Come to Chicago. Stay. Grab a bite to eat. Your new university expects no less.

Well, my thoughts about all of this...

Kelly told his players they'd be the first to know what his decision was going to be. He lied to them. They were the last to know.

Kelly, who woke up the local media to finally cover UC football, left town under the cover of Cincinnati police without a single comment to the local media.

Kelly asked the fans to buy in. On the day that UC announced that they sold out its allotment of Sugar Bowl tickets, the coach has nothing to say to UC fans.

I guess I know how West Virginia fans felt after Dick-Rod did his alma mater like that.

As shady as BK has handled this for the last 10 days, I really don't have anything negative to say. It sucks and I am not overly joyed by it. But I will keep hoping that eventually a good coach will find his way to Clifton who will not only win, but stay.

Of course, life wasn't all that bad today. The basketball team did beat Fredo of Ohio (that's for you, ORD) and the Squeelers lost to the freaking Clowns!

This is what is being reported, and if true I just don't get it. Fans are fickle, you are not going to make them happy. But how tough is it to swallow hard and face the players - like you said you would? This is the guy who gets in everybody's face on the sidelines and says it is fine if they fire back. Is he now afraid of a shouting match? Did he think something worse would come out of that meeting than being called a liar and a coward?

You are now the coach at ND. I want to despise you. But do you have to make it so easy?

this is the only thing that is bugging me. I knew he was gone to NoD not that long ago...I accepted it...but to not address the media and the fans and have your say and explain things...it's weak.
I was upset when Dantonio left...but respected the hell out of him for talking positively about UC in his MSU presser and then coming back to UC the next day and facing the media here.

Picked this up from a ND board:

Interesting to hear that Kelly runs his practices like a "tyrant," but that his players become more attached to him because of it. The anger coming from most of the Cinci players is evidence of how much they liked Kelly, because they're feeling of betrayal are so great.

It's also interesting to speculate on how ND players will handle his tough coaching style. Not meaning to sound elitist, but Kelly and staff would be dealing with arguably the brightest players he's ever coached. I wonder if the tough style works for intellectual players. In my opinion, ND needs a dose of some tough love...that produces results. (Perhaps Charlie would yell at them, but without any payoff.)

Coupled with the reported silence of his departure he is sounding more like an RR clone every day.

That said, this is all happening fast. Details on the nature of his exit may change over the next day or so.

I get it. I do. ND dangled the irresistible trinket in front of BK & he grabbed it. How could he pass it up? Just like I get it that all those cocktail waitresses couldn't find a reason to pass up Tiger. I'm also inclined to feel that there is about the same level of integrity operating in both situations. I understand BK is not the first (or the second) coach to treat his team this way. I still hate it when they do it. What a shabby thing to do to a bunch of kids who played their hearts out for you all year. It's three-and-a-half weeks...3-1/2 lousy WEEKS 'til the Sugar Bowl. BK couldn't stay that long to finish the job he started? ND couldn't survive without him for that little span of time?

I'm not Catholic, but I know enough about the tenets of that faith to feel certain that the term "Karma" doesn't appear in their doctrine. But, ND has heard of the concept, haven't they? Vindictive though it may be, I'm inclined to feel that coaches & schools who begin their relationship as this one has begun, kinda merit a first-hand demonstration.
