Buffalo Bills (official thread)

If they're not going to pick up Manuel's option he's essentially a lame-duck QB and they should treat Cardale as the #2 if 12 Gauge ends up being good enough to be the backup...

Well, they are supposedly aiming to "win now", and EJ has enough experience (16 games started in 3 years, ~80 QB rating) that he's a very solid backup option at a negligible cost - but sure, if Cardale shows out, by all means let's see him out there when Tyrod needs a spell.

I just won't be surprised to see him need the "redshirt" year, and he's in a place that probably won't need him to get out there before he's ready, so having that very realistic shot at becoming a #2 QB in year two is a nice situation for him.

Bills going the Browns route and stockpiling early round picks for 2018

Seriously shocking moves! Bills fans have to be freaking out about the heralded Sammy Watkins getting moved... but he's in his last year, unlikely to re-sign with Buffalo at his desired price, and more likely than not to be injured again this year. But trading away a guy who cost 2 first-rounders, before his rookie deal is up, is tough to swallow. The real takeaway from these trades is that McDermott just really does not like players drafted by Doug Whaley.

On the whole these may work out as decent moves long-term for the Bills. Jordan Matthews is reasonably not-bad, Ronald Darby was seemed to have plateaued (not familiar with EJ Gaines), and they have a whole bunch of top-100 picks to work with next year. But it doesn't bode well for this year... Good thing I gave up all hope yesterday.
