I will admit that Tressel has been a great addition to our Buckeyes. He has brought character to the university and has brought us back to being a top tier program.

The playcalling doesn't really bother me. Run up the middle every play if you want to but...Tressel shaking his head after the final play against Northwestern was very telling! Your 2nd and 3rd team players scored and the result was a dissapointment? I don't understand!

We need to have HEART! Watching the Illinois game today, caused me to join this forum to voice this opinion. Pryor and Wells are the only players on this offense that have enough heart! The offensive line is not overrated! Our recruiting classes the last few years have not been lackluster! Our kids are talented but they need movitated!

Tell the lineman..."You pancake your guy or find the bench! You knock your man off of the line of scrimmage or I will find someone who will!"

Tell your QB, WR's and RB's to play like they are in the backyard! Let the QB THROW!!! Beanie and Pryor...don't need to be told a thing...they prove week in and week out that they have the right attitude! Let's face it, this is their offense!

Defense...you are great and you know it! Coaches...you have a great defense. The spread always hurts us because of our soft zone defense. Let them man up! What does it tell the players when we play 90% of snaps in a zone defense? You wanna beat a high powered SEC team? Let your players make each play their personal responsibility.

ATTITUDE? Turn on the Florida/S. Carolina game right now and see if the attitude Florida has resembles Ohio State. I watch Spikes (Florida LB) punt the football out of the endzone after scoring a TD following his second interception of a game a few weeks back. I'm sure he told Urban Meyer something along the lines of "I earned that celebration penality"! They have the right attitude and we should be ashamed of our back-ups scoring to "run up" the score? What am I missing?

THE POINT: We win throughout the year because of raw talent! We lose big games because of the absense of heart and NO killer instinct! As I was yelling at the TV today during the Illinois game in which we won, my four-year-old son (who eats his vegtables because we tell him "Pryor" loves them) asked me why I was mad and said "it's just a game". That made me think...is that the attitude of the O-line and WR's? Why did Hartline pull up and run out of bounds on a 3rd down play leaving Pryor to pick up a yard on 4th down behind a "non-surge" by the O-line? Why did I watch our line get pushed around ALL game? Why does Alex Boone speak loudly and carry a small stick?

The answer...NO HEART! The players and coaches need to show their heart and flex their muscle!

Lets get it together! Pryor and Wells cannot do it all on their own! GO BUCKS!

Heart? we won the damn game who needs heart when we dominated the game? You show heart when you're in a struggle. There was no struggle today.

We ran for 300+ yards today, our freshman QB only had to throw the ball 10 times, and we won the game what more do you want? If you want a team to be blowing out opponents, to run the score up, to dive into the endzone, to embarress their university with their behavior then honestly go watch those Florida Gators.

Why did we beat Miami in 2002, why did we start off 3-0 in the BCS bowls under tressel? Certainly not because of lack of heart. Certainly we haven't played as well in big games the last two years but those were great teams we've lost to! Anyone could've lost those games

Our Rivals haven't beat us in god knows how many days, we're probably going to end the season 10-2 (another 10+ win season) and these "heartless" teams have been winning at an 80% clip over Tressels watch. Give these guys a freaking break ESPECIALLY since we just repaid Illinois for the loss from last year.

Welcome aboard and don't take my post the wrong way but I think you could've spent your first post better than you did.

I want to start by saying that I love the Buckeyes and this is not intended to "bash" anyone. That's not to say that someone doesn't need to be in players grills to kick them into gear. I just don't understand the lack of intensity on this football team. True, we won this game but please answer this...Why could we not close out the game rushing the ball the way Juice Williams and the Illini did last year. We can't push the defense from Ohio University to USC off the line of scrimmage!...WITH BEANIE WELLS IN THE BACKFIELD! How many yards rushing do we have this game with a average runningback? Is there any team that is intimidated by us? No!

Running up the score is an embarrassment to the university? What do you tell your team..."Now guys, no more than 30 points this game!" We never run up the score and our 2nd team comes in to do what?...fall down at the line of scrimmage? Why don't we all just sell girl scout cookies?

And I will say that I hate Florida because they are Florida, but I respect their intensity...as they are winning 42-6! Up 42-6! How long before that score would we have shut it down? We scored 7 points in the second half and we dominated?

We won the 2003 Nat'l Championship game because we were more intense than Miami. There was nothing flashy about that team but they were intimidating!

And to MaxBuck...I would define Heart as the willingness to take a hit to pick up a first down instead of ducking out of bounds, leaving your team with a 4th down! Simple enough?

I appreciate the debate but this is football! If diplomacy is your thing, join the United Nations!

Don't get an Infraction

A rational, well thought out observation. Don't get an "infraction" for voicing an opinion like this! I lost a whole 15 points!!! :-(

I guess we should sit around and complain that we are not in the national championship picture!

From what I'm gathering from this website, running up the score is only acceptable against Michigan.

Teams need to STOP worrying about running up the score, it's the other team's defense's job to keep our score down not us.

Last year, Illinois was protecting a one touchdown lead with plenty of time left. Obviously they had their best players in. We were ahead three scores. Tress likes to put in the backups whenever he can. That will reap rewards next year, same with the defense giving up points late. They'll be better because of it. Always good for the guys to have film to watch.

Well last week we put the backups in they scored and Tressel was upset while Pryor was exciting running and jumping behind Tressel (like he should have been). Any insight or thoughts on that one?

Yup. Here are my thoughts...

We won today. Convincingly. The OL had their best game of the year and it was a big win on the road.

I have zero idea what purpose you are trying to serve with this discussion or why you would choose to do so only a few hours after the game.
In fact, it bothers me..it irritates me. Take your bull[censored] elsewhere and let the fans enjoy today without the garbage.

Didn't the Bucks just win a game a couple of hours ago? Cripes, get a grip.

I am one of the fans! Wearing my OSU Jersey and teaching football to my 4-year-old son and explaining why we only root for the Buckeyes! We did NOT win convincingly enough in my opinion. I would have liked to see us win the time of possession (a sign that we did not "dominate" or win "convincingly"). Just because we won does not mean that we played our best game. Let's hope that we continue to improve!

Great. I disagree. Maybe you can teach me some football also.

Time of possession is a sign of dominance? What if you score on a few quick strikes due to long plays, or deep turnovers, or on special teams...heck even pick sixes? Wouldn't that skew a time of possession stat?

If you are going to judge success on stats, you likely will never be happy...one stat counts: W.

Was the victim routine really worth another infraction? Arguing with moderation or ding whining, take your pick.

Your opinion is not the problem here. The hyperbole, overreaction and lack of tact is.
I guess we should sit around and complain that we are not in the national championship picture!
You complained about almost everything else possible, even with areas that were not a problem today.

Right, because there weren't a LOT of folks who disliked Tressel's reaction to Boom's TD. But then that would require reading and basing your posts in reality rather than going off the deep end.

Illinois is a very talented offense which OSU held to THIRTEEN points.

This was an excellent step in the right direction.
