C Felix Okpara (Transfer to Tennessee)

Another excellent game of the bench. Best rim protector in awhile. Ultimate test comes next

Absolutely, he just eliminated some layups that I thought were going in for sure. Okpara is exactly what we've been looking for in a big and he is only going to get better as we go. Huge test Thursday night and he'll have some bumps without a doubt, but having Okpara and Key available down low makes me feel better...in year's past we just didn't have the bigs to defend a team like Purdue. Love what I am seeing from this kid so far.

Couldn't have said it better RB07. Seem to remember Edney as a tall, stick figure before Purdue trainers put some meat on him. Okpara comes to us pretty well filled out. Watched him battle Edney under the basket, and he didn't give away much, even though he's about 5-6 inches shorter, and about 20 pounds lighter. Okpara is also a perfect foil to Zed (who if one recalls, has muchly developed over two years). Long way of saying Okpara is further along at this stage of his career. The O will come, and with the team make-up currently, a presence is needed under the rim, as there are shooters galore outside. Also, having two keeps us competing with the teams that have two bigs, and aren't afraid to put them on the court at the same time. Sueing uses his bball IQ to guard the PF, but Okpara can do it better.

Okpara finished with five points, five rebounds, two assists and a plus-4 on the floor in his career-high 30 minutes, but it was the other side of the ball that really stood out for the true freshman. Whether it was trying to make things difficult for Edey, blocking three shots, rotating to help his teammates or just being the anchor in the paint for the Buckeye defense, Okpara proved he has the potential to be a great defensive center at Ohio State as he continues to develop.

“I thought he did some good things,” Holtmann said of Okpara's performance against Purdue. “He obviously got moved off his spot a lot but I thought Felix really competed, as I expected he would.”

12 points (5-8 from the field, 2-2 from the line), 12 rebounds (4 were a the offensive end), and 3 blocks vs Illinois; and he's only going to get better.

Sky is the limit for Felix, he is one of the major reasons I am hopeful for next season. We have a big that is getting better by the day and may end up being one of the best defensive centers in the country sooner rather than later, plus getting Thornton, Sensabaugh and Gayle back with the incoming frosh class is going to be a great mix of talent and the right roles. I have been a tad harsh on CH this year but I mean I can't say it was unwarranted...but next year I expect Felix to improve and with more experience of our frosh this class and the talent coming in, a worst to first type of scenario is not out of the question. Either way, great to see Felix is coming along, he is critical for next season and on.

Man I just wish he'd gotten more time earlier. Get that confidence going early in the year and who knows how many of those ugly ass games we might have fought off. Just roll on and get better each time out!

Yeah the Key injury was unfortunate but it'll pay off for the team next year. Okpara is one that just need plenty of PT to develop since he hasn't played the sport that long. Can't wait to see that development next season.

Coach should absolutely look at moving Key to the 4. He can shoot the three better than anyone imagined and we've already seen his post game
He and Okpara on the court together could be nice man
