C Felix Okpara (Transfer to Tennessee)

I don't think Key is mobile enough to play 4 and in today's game you need athleticism. I like Zed Key but he just doesn't fit that mold. Today's game is guards, wings and forwards for the most part.
Then he should go to Europe because unfortunately, we are better with Okpara on the court. We just don't have that inside scoring down, yet.

Key at 100% adds value to the team, but trying to play through him with one arm became a detriment. More minutes next season from Okpara and another big body to throw out there in Parks should allow Key to be used for his strengths and minimize the dependence on him.

Twas a joy to watch Okpara grow and gain basketball IQ each and every game that he played in. Sure, he made mistakes, but those are the things that the coaches are supposed to work through in practice sessions. Strength, weight gains will toughen him up, and going against Key during practices will help him against some of the bigs in the B10. If he can hit the mid-range jumper, and develop a jump hook, he can be a dangerous threat. Seems to have a nose for the rebounds as well. Same could be said for all the other frosh that got valuable minutes while the team was in their winning drought.

If Felix makes the next step, this team can be really good. We've been missing a true elite big and he showed some flashes that he can be that guy last year. Fingers crossed.
Yep just has to complete his techniques and stay out of foul trouble. Already working on having a "soft touch" on Offense around the rim Hopefully he posterizes some people early on and puts the fear of God in the teams we play and let our guards work more. Going to be very interesting at least this year.

  • On Felix Okpara: "I like a lot about him. He impacts the game in a lot of ways, and I think for us, he's going to need to be able to play a lot of those (20-25 minute games)."
  • On determining the mintues for Okpara and fellow center Zed Key: "We'll play the best players the most minutes."
