C Zed "Finger Guns" Key (transfer to Dayton)

I feel like Zed should probably rest this game even though we definitely need him. No need to rush it abs make it worse. Go to smaller lineups and run and get Okpara some great experience

Yeah, the next game isn't until Saturday (after tomorrow's) so gives him a week. Indiana has been rolling their last 3 games, so we'll need everyone to have any shot.

On Monday, Key could be a bit more transparent about his injury than when he was playing. Although it was clear both by watching the center play and by looking at the stats – 13.4 points on 63.2 percent shooting as well as 8.4 rebounds per game over the first two months of the year and eight points on 42.9 percent shooting and 6.6 rebounds per game after the injury – Key admitted that the shoulder affected him.

“A lot,” Key said when asked how much the injury affected his drop off on the court. “Obviously I'm down in the post, so I use my shoulder a lot to get the defender off my body. I do a lot of jumping, grabbing rebounds, and people going in there and hitting your arms and I use my left hand a lot for the jump hook. So even with the brace on, it definitely affected me a lot because I knew that my shoulder wasn't 100 percent and the shots that were falling in the beginning of the year that I knew I can make, it just wasn't falling.”

While the Buckeyes might not miss an injured Key as much as a healthy one, the major setback of this decision could be heading into next year. Key should be fully recovered from the surgery, but he will miss time during the summer while recovering.

So glad to see Zed 'schooling' Felix during a time-out. And that Felix is listening to him. Someone reminded me that Greg Oden followed Thad to Butler(?). Had hoped he was still here to teach the young bigs how to play the game. Maybe Holtmann could call in Jerry Lucas to help out? (haven't seen any obit, so assume he's still with us).

Lucas was on the sideline for a game recently so I'm pretty sure he's still with us. And while I don't see him doing any on the court drills with Key or Okpara (he's got to be in his 80's), there are quite a few things he could teach them about the mental side of the game. Lucas was (and probably still is) amazing.

During the UCLA, wondered who was at center when Okpara drew his second foul. Wife told me it was Zed. He looked like a forward....Okpara played very well, so the off season has been good for his development, but he is making too many mistakes. Love his shot blocking skills. Anyway, was very impressed with Zed's savvy when he came in. Might have lost too much weight/mass to lean/push out the bigs that are bigger than he, but he is a damn fine backup for Okpara. PS, all the sophomores played mightily, could see both teams in Final Four in a couple of years. Go Bucks!
