Q. What will I need to play online?

A. The game itself, a PS2, an Internet connection (dial-up, broadband, or better), electricity, and any one of the following supported devices:

[*OFFICIALLY SUPPORTED* USB Ethernet Adapters]

LinkSys EtherFast 10/100 USB Network Adapter USB100TX
D-Link DSB-650TX USB Ethernet Adapter
SMC EZNET-USB *2202* USB Ethernet Adapter
SOHOware 10/100 Mbps USB Network Adapter NUB100
D-Link DU-E100 USB Ethernet Konverter (European version of DSB-650TX)
Edimax USB Ethernet Adapter EU-4201

OR ...

[*OFFICIALLY SUPPORTED* USB 56K Modems]

Zoom FaxModem 56K USB Model 2985L
New Media USB Pocket 56K NetSurfer NMT00700
MultiTech Systems MultiModemUSB MT5634ZBA-USB
Actiontec Call Waiting USB Modem USB56012-01CW
Swann Smart USB 56k V.90 Modem
MultiTech MultiMobile USB, Model MT5634MU
Zoom/FaxModem 56k USB Model 2987

You *must* have one of these devices connected to the PS2 in order to play online. If you do not own one of these, you will most likely *NOT* be able to make a connection. Unless it has the same chipset and ID as one of the supported devices, you can not just run a USB cable from your USB based digital or analog modem or network device directly to the USB ports on the PS2.

Again, you only need *one* of these devices. If you purchase a supported modem, there is no need to get an ethernet adapter as well.

To further clarify and help ease any confusion, if you have:

a) A standard dial-up connection.

You will need a supported USB 56k modem. If you use AOL, NetZero, a similar unsupported ISP, or if you wish to make use of your existing modem instead of purchasing a new one just for use with THPS 3, please see the Troubleshooting section of the FAQ for possible solutions.

b) A cable, DSL, or other broadband connection using a standard ethernet based modem.

You will need a supported ethernet adapter which will connect directly to your PS2. Additional assistance with this type of setup is available at:

http://www.planettonyhawk.com/thps3/info/online/tutorial/

c) A cable, DSL, or other broadband connection using a USB or firewire based modem with no ethernet capabilities.

You will need to purchase a supported ethernet adapter *AND* either a NIC (Network Interface Card) or an ethernet capable modem. See the Troubleshooting section of the FAQ for full information.

d) An internal DSL or cable modem.

You will need to purchase a supported ethernet adapter *AND* either a NIC (Network Interface Card) or an external ethernet capable modem. See the Troubleshooting section of the FAQ for full information.

e) A satellite based connection such as DirecPC.

You will need to purchase a supported ethernet adapter *AND* a NIC.

f) A LAN based ethernet connection, commonly found in offices, dorms, etc.

You will need to purchase a supported ethernet adapter.
