Cam Heyward continues to honor late father despite fine by league

The NFL fined the Steelers' DE when he wrote "Ironhead" on his eye blacks in Week 5, but that didn't stop him from doing it again.
Week 6 wasn't particularly kind to former Ohio State players, but some didn't have bad games. Several players on bye week made their way back to old Columbus town for the "Dark Night in The 'Shoe" and watched the Buckeyes roll over the Nittany Lions under the lights.
Heyward continues to honor late father
Just last week, Steelers defensive end Cam Heyward was fined for writing "Ironhead" on his eye blacks. He did so as a tribute to his late father and NFL great Craig, who passed away from cancer in 2006. The fine by the league didn't deter the young Heyward from wearing the eye blacks again in Week 6, who vows to continue to do so.
Buffalo vs Cincinnati
In one of the first "snow games" of the year, the Cincinnati Bengals (A.J. Hawk, Mike Nugent) made the trip to Buffalo to face the Bills (Dan Herron). Hawk hasn't had the same momentum as seasons past, and was held up during a two-yard scoring drive for Buffalo. Nugent on the other hand had a very busy day, going two-for-two at field goals with a 47-yard long; he also made all four point after attempts on the day. 'Boom' is still working his way into the Bills offense -- which will be much tougher with the return of running back LeSean McCoy -- but had two receptions for 17 yards in his second game as a Bill.
Hyde limited by injury
At the beginning of the season, running back Carlos Hyde looked like the savior to a struggling San Francisco 49ers offense. He has gradually fallen off through Week 6, and only recorded 55 yards on 21 rushes against the Baltimore Ravens. He's had pain in his left foot, but is still expecting to play in 'Thursday Night Football' this week.
Devin Smith short of being a "gunner"
The New York Jets have stopped using second-round draft choice Devin Smith and it's in large part to his preseason rib injury. His lack of training at crucial roles has limited his opportunities on special teams thus far.
Jets' special teams coordinator Bobby April discussed Smith and how his game has changed since college.
"I watched all his film at Ohio State. I don't remember him ever being double teamed. Why they wouldn't double team him, that's their problem. But they spread the guys all over. He was the widest. And he went down there and made a ton of plays. We're trying to wean him into facing doubles. Not only did he miss training camp, but he also missed all the preseason games. So I think it set him back from that type of thing."

- Several Buckeyes had a bye week, including the Dallas Cowboys (Rod Smith), St. Louis Rams (Christian Bryant, James Laurinaitis, Jake McQuaide), Tampa Bay Buccaneers (Reid Fragel).
- Cleveland Browns' strong safety Donte Whitner had a good game against the Denver Broncos, recording six total tackles on the day.
- Pittsburgh Steelers were without safety Will Allen (ankle) and linebacker Ryan Shazier (shoulder).
