Ohio State Makes Plans

The Ohio State University is making contingency plans in case of flooding along the Olentangy River due to the controlled release at the Delaware Dam.

"Those working in buildings in closest proximity to the river are being encouraged to take steps to protect equipment and data in the unlikely event the river does overflow," said William Shkurti, senior vice president for business and finance. "Student Affairs officials also are working to determine the appropriate course of action should students in Morrill and Lincoln towers be affected.

"At this point, classes will continue to be held on Friday. Due to the holiday, most University offices will be closed Monday, with the exception of units such as the Department of Public Safety and the OSU Medical Center, among others."

This was a big issue where I work today... If the top gates of the dam were opened, buildings along Cannon would've been under several feet of water. The flood plain supposedly extended out to Wiseman Hall on 12th, almost to the Medctr. Preliminary plans were made to evacuate Lincoln and Morrill as well. We didn't get quite enough rain today to force the full release. Looks like it'll be nothing major unless we get slammed again quickly.
