Carp with Bulletin Board Material

TexasFight1 said:
Here's a clue for you bub...We down in TEXAS didn't put much value in beating a mediocre team that not only had been scheduled for years in advance, but regretably had to deal with the tragedy in Louisianna before coming to Austin...Mack pulled VY and the first team after 5 minutes in the 3rd quarter....this laugher could have become a 100+ point game, and nobody on the TEXAS team wanted to see that...Mack got done what needed to get done. The players got to beat up on somebody else instead of each other....they showed nothing for the film watchers in Columbus...ESPECIALLY on defense..They emptied the bench and walked away without any injuries...They have read your boasts, and prefer to let their game speak for itself..It willHook'em!

Sorry, BUB, but you're absolutely wrong. VY scored a TD w/8:21 to go in the third quarter. Get your facts straight next time. Second of all, if Macky boy had any class at all, his starters wouldn't have played at all in the 2nd half, considering he was up 39-0 at the half. As I've said before, Macky has proven time and again that there's no depth to which he won't sink when it comes to trying to impress pollsters. Last weekend was just another example. Deal with that, bub, b/c you're the one who needs to get a clue.

No bulletin board material is needed for this game.

Big Game Mack is terrified of this game and the way his team plays will reflect that. This is a Texas team that is WORSE than they were last season.

Texas is going to come into the Shoe tighter than a drum and that's exactly the way that the Buckeyes like it.

No doubt that there is a wealth of talent on the Texas squad, but I've said it before and I'll say it again:

Texas barely beat Kansas last year.
Texas barely beat Okie State last year (down 35-7 at the half).
Texas barely beat Arkansas last year.
Texas barely beat Michigan last year.
Texas lost the HUGE game on the schedule to OU. Texas was head and shoulders more talented than that OU team.

I know that a win is a win (if anyone knows that it's Ohio State fans), but with the talent on that Texas team those games should have never been in doubt. Coaching.

Take a look at how Ohio State and Texas fared against common opponents last season. Beat Michigan 37-21 and beat Okie State 33-7. The games were never in doubt. The difference is that Jim Tressel gets his teams loose and ready to play in big games.

Case in point: Miami (Fla.) 24 Ohio State 31
Give Tressel a week to prepare and his team is going to be great. Give Tressel a month to prepare and he's lethal. Don't think for a minute that they haven't been preparing for this game all summer.

in a nutshell... we have to get into VY's head... if he feels he can run, he will... this is a big strong fast athlete... can't get more safe than a running QB with a VG OL.. gotta get him to thinking run only.. then sending the front 7 to get him... and crush him a few times... Young rarely gets hit solid... he's too good

Hello

I've been reading your forum for months now and have to say you have good one. Generally, well informed, smart commentary. Not too much smack. It's been fun reading. I'm a UT grad and live in Austin, but lived in Chicago for many years and really enjoyed the Big 10 coverage. I was there while Barnett was at Northwestern. Anyway, about Carpenter's quote. I think media is doing as much as possible to play on it. But from how it's generally perceived here in Austin it's no big deal. It's not inflammatory...It's funny how some things get latched onto. I also don't get the sense the players think it's any big deal. Also, to give you an idea of the community psyche coming into this game. Austin's pumped and you get the sense everyone is loose. It in no way feels like what's been happening against OU. So I don't think the players are going to be tight in this one. Doesn't mean we'll win...but I wouldn't expect a "UT vs. OU" experience.

After living in Chicago and going to some Big 10 games (Norhtwestern, Wisconsin, Michigan v. Notre Dame--unfortunately never made it to an Ohio State game) I can tell you alot of Texas fans as well as some Buckeye fans may not appreciate the others' rivalries and game like atmosphere.

A&M will never be confused with Ohio State but playing at Kyle Field is still pretty awesome. A&M has some really devote fans. Playing at Nebraska really impressed me. A couple of years ago when Major Applewhite was still playing, we beat them and at the end of the game got a standing O from their fans. I was impressed...I don't think we would have done the same.

Let's get a couple of things straight...nobody here has said that Carp's quote was "smack". Some feel that nothing at all should be said, and let's wait the game do all the talking. Others feel that comments like Carp's are fine, and see no problem with it. Nobody is arguing that what he said was smack. Nobody is even accusing him of running his mouth. Some feel that he shouldn't have said anything at all, but STILL don't think what he said was "smack". Enough with defending him, nobody is accusing him of anything.

OSU defense rallies around Carpenter
Wednesday, September 07, 2005
Jodie Valade
Plain Dealer Reporter

Columbus - First, the clarification: What Bobby Carpenter meant to say is he hopes Texas quarterback Vince Young won't leave Saturday's game against Ohio State as the Heisman Trophy front-runner. That's part of the motto of Ohio State's defense, to never let a player be mentioned next to the top college football player award immediately after playing the Buckeyes.

"Because if a guy leaves here as a front-runner, obviously that means he smoked us," linebacker Anthony Schlegel said.

Somehow, though, what came out of Carpenter's mouth after Saturday's game sounded more like bulletin-board material on ESPN. Specifically, the Ohio State linebacker intimated Young would not leave Saturday's game at Ohio Stadium as a Heisman contender. Not even close. Period.

Which means the Buckeyes defense has heaved a collective sigh, and now is digging in to prepare for defending one of their own.

"Hey, now we've got to walk the walk because he talked the talk," Schlegel said. "But it's fun. That's what games like this are all about. It's going to be great, and we're going to try to live up to it."

Ohio State coach Jim Tressel couldn't be baited into defending Carpenter's comment Tuesday.

"That wouldn't have been my first choice of a statement," Tressel offered.

Though the defense now stands firmly behind Carpenter, Schlegel said they didn't react quite as favorably to Carpenter, directly.

"We're just like, 'You're a [moron], man,' " Schlegel said. " 'But we still love you.'"

UT cornerback/safety Cedric Griffin isn't about to concede speed or athleticism to the Buckeyes' wideouts.
"I've played against guys who are better than them," Griffin said, referring to former UT receiver Roy Williams. "Santonio Holmes can beat you with his route running. But I haven't seen Ginn do any kind of route running."
Griffin said, "I don't think their athletes beat our athletes at all. It's dead even. If anything, I think we have the edge because I believe in our athletes."

Seems like Carp is not the only one talking!!
