CB Ashton Youboty (CB Coach Purdue)

The talent and numbers are there to replace these two (well, three if you count Holmes). OSU should be fine (although it would be nice to have the veterans).

Holmes was a no-brainer... He has two kids to look out for, and he will go in the first round.

Whitner doesn't surprise me. He will more than likely go in the second round (maybe third round)... safties don't tend to go in the first round, so my guess is he would more than likely go near the top of the second round next year if he continued to improve... all in all, he might increase his draft status by a half round to a full round. Play three years then get the big bucks...

Youboty does surprise me. I'd have to check the other corners that will be in the draft, however I see him as a late second round or third round pick. If he had another good year next year and continued to develop he could be a legit first round pick next year. He could really improve his draft status with another year, for this reason I think it is a mistake. I don't beleive he is in a bad finacial situation, so taking care of the family isn't a current concern (to my knowledge).

evaluation of Ashton from NFLdraftblitz

Youboty makes this cornerback class even more interesting. A exceptional talent, Youboty could be the second corner selected when the draft rolls around. One real concern is that he's shown himself to be prone to bouts of inconsistency. However, his physical skills and upside should be enough to make NFL team's look past it.

Mel Kiper Jr has updated his personnel points today and now includes AY:

Ashton Youboty, Ohio State
2005: 56 tackles, 1 INT, 9 pass breakups
As a sophomore, he was one of the better cornerbacks in the country. Youboty had a good but not great junior season. He was beaten in man coverage and struggled with ball recognition. He does have an impressive combination of size (6-0, 189) and recovery speed, and did play well late in the year. Because he has a ton of talent and likely will be a good workout player, Youboty will be a late first-rounder.

Wow, I didn't know consistency was important in your professional occupation... :roll1:

Draft is shaping up well for our boys. A.J. is a surefire top-5 pick with Santonio also going in the top half, and I think once Carp and Kudla get their workouts in thats 2 more POTENTIAL 1st rounders. Add Yabouty to that and we could be looking at 4 maybe even 5 in the 1st round. Not to shabby.

Not to take anything away from Kudla, but do you really think he has any chance to go in the first rd? He's kinda of a "tweener" in that he is a bit undersized for DE in the NFL, but not quite fast enough for LB. I can't see a team spend a first rd pick on him, even after he bench presses 225lbs about 837 times.

Um...David Pollack. I'm not assured that Mike would go in the first round, but once he shows some people what he can do, there will be a lot of intrigue. Crazy things happen on draft day.

Kiper updated his "Big Board" today, with AY debuting at #22. Ashton is the 2nd highest rated DB in the draft according to Kiper, behind Va Tech's Jimmy Williams who is listed on the board at #21. #24 on the board is South Carolina's Ko Simpson.

Scout's Todd McShay has AY 30th overall, behind only Williams and Texas' Michael Huff among all DBs.

Among the ESPN affiliated services, it appears unanimous that Ashton is a late 1st round pick.
