CB Denzel 'Hurt! My! Feelings!' Ward (All B1G, All-American, Pro Bowl, Cleveland Browns)

Since it was in the 1st half, he was already able to play this weekend. Just a shame the call took away his scoop and score.
Regardless of the targeting penalty, there's no way it should have been blown dead. It's not like any Maryland player was about to get involved with that play.

Wasn't there somewhere a push that if an inadvertent whistle was declared on a play like that they'd award the score anyways? I don't remember if it was college or NFL though.

If there is one takeaway from watching college football this year, it is that the targeting rules need overhauled BIG TIME. It seems almost everyone agrees on that. Ward's hit should be Exhibit A as to why.
I'll go one step further. The rules should be eliminated. Not to get political (as I've been criticized on this site for that before), but the powers that be will never be satisfied until the game is ruined.

If they get their way, the powers that be will have every team playing for National Participation Trophies instead of championships. :sneaky: :urban2:

I don't have a problem with the rule, it's the uneven application of it that's a problem.

In this instance the replay official should be suspended a game. That was an egregious error that was universally panned in real time -- which is saying something since 50% of football fans on social media are giddy when something bad happens to The Buckeyes. Nobody could defend that call, and it only took two angles and 10 seconds to see.
