Strikes me that what would be hilarious (and pretty well deserved) would be if Herman takes the LSU job, and then Charlies walks out on them, too.
(Assuming his contract could allow it.)

Charlie has 10 million reasons not to walk out on them.

And of course they won't believe the LSU rumuors. THEY'RE TEXAS......You know, THE JONESES! It is utterly inconceivable to them that Herman would go elsewhere and will be right up until he signs the contract. After that, it'll just be about time for a booster to go around the administration and directly contact Saban himself. Ain't no coaching search like a Longhorn coaching search.

Can we temporarily change the title of this thread to (I'm Not Dead Yet) until Tejas unfucks themselves and decides what they're going to do.

Reports are out that if Herman is not available Strong may survive another year. I'm sure the Bevo crowd would just love that.

Charlie Strong era (likely) ends in Texas’ 22-point loss to TCU

ap_728790316824.jpg

If this was the curtain call for the Charlie Strong era at Texas, it ended just the way more than half of his other previous did — with a loss.

With speculation regarding Tom Herman enveloping the football program, there was a school of thought that, with a blowout win over TCU Friday afternoon, Strong had a chance to save his job and make it back for a fourth season in Austin. If that’s the case, it’s not meant to be for Strong as red zone woes played a role early on before the Longhorns’ fourth-quarter mini-meltdown pushed the Horned Frogs to a 31-9 win.
.
.
.
After a 6-7 mark his first year, Strong has gone 5-7 in back-to-back seasons. Those 16 wins are the fewest in a three-year stretch since David McWilliams hit the same number in his first three seasons from 1987-89.

Reports: Texas to fire Charlie Strong Sat., turn focus to Tom Herman

After meeting with Charlie Strong on Saturday morning to go over the termination of the final two years of his contract, Texas officials were expected to turn their focus to Houston coach Tom Herman, multiple sources told HornsDigest.com.

SI.com‘s Pete Thamel subsequently confirmed the report.

A former UT graduate assistant with significant coaching ties to the state, Herman’s been known to privately call the Longhorns his dream job. When it comes to a potential Herman decision between LSU and Texas, the latter side is apparently confident as to how that would play out. From Brown’s report:

One of the big-money donors who has been pushing for Herman to replace Strong told HD Friday night they expected Texas to be able to step in front of LSU and land Herman, because they believe Texas is Herman’s “dream job.”

Money will be of little or no object when it comes to either LSU or Texas.
