Cincinnati Bengals (2013 Season)

USA Today says Maualuga's deal was 2 years $6.5 million. I'm good with that.

I thought I read over the weekend that Jones was close to signing and that Smith was next on the attempt to re-sign list. We'll see where the money goes after that.

Lewis on if Maualuga would move to SAM: "I don't anticipate any change. I think things will be good the way they are."

This is why the Bengals will NEVER amount to anything as long as Marvin Lewis is the Head coach, what a blowhard

I'm ok with Maualuga coming back BUT only if we get him out of MIKE...he simply cannot cover the ground we need him to in the NFL and that was clearly evident last season. In any event, we need him to lose some serious weight and work on his sideline-to-sideline speed. That being said, I was really hoping we would use the money on Lawson and/or Howard at LB...both of those guys were more impressive imo, though I have no idea on our plans Howard after Lawson signed with Buffalo. We only really need average to above average LBs with the resigning of our DL, so there should be no excuses for our front 7. Still need to draft a LB with one of our top 3 picks though.

Moving forward, we MUST resign Smith and getting Adam Jones back would certainly be nice at corner. Overall, I like our strategy in the FA market...we didn't pay too much and reach, plus we resigned the guys we needed to (so long as we get Smith back). If we have a good draft, we should be poised to take the AFC North.

I can see your stance on Maualuga, and if I were a Bengals fan in the same ilk as my tOSU fandom, then I would likely have similar feelings. But I guess living through the last 20 plus years of "the Bungles" I have become more of an NFL fan with the Bengals as my favorite team.

My thoughts on the Bengals in general is, "Suck Less" and for the last couple of years they have. I think signing the USC pos at that price helps keep them in the hunt for the playoff race and a Division Title.

I also don't consider Marvin Lewis a great coach (maybe not even a very good coach) but we have lived through much, much, much worse.

As long as they are not drafting Akili Smith, hiring Dave Shula, or passing on hiring Bill Walsh then I guess they exceed my expectations.

that was before Free Agency started

Gotcha. I honestly have no issues with the way we have approached FA, other than I wish we would have made a serious move for Ed Reed at safety. I really didn't see any FA out there at a position of need that was at a reasonable price, other than maybe Bush, who would have been the perfect compliment to BJGE. However, I think we can get a guy with one of our 2nd round picks that can come in and fulfill that role well...this year seems like a great one to get good value on a great RB. I am still holding out hope we get Ginn though...he could give us a big boost in our return game at the very least.

If we can re-sign Smith and Newman, add Ginn, add Vaccaro/Elam at S and Bernard at RB I'll be happy.
