Cincinnati Reds (2017 official thread of moose knuckle)

DONE DEAL: The Cincinnati Reds have signed reliever Drew Storen to a one-year deal. The 29-year-old Storen posted a 5.23 ERA over 51 2/3 innings with the Toronto Blue Jays and Seattle Mariners last season. After struggling with Toronto early in the year, Storen put up a 3.44 ERA with Seattle over his final 18 1/3 innings. He’s expected to make $3 million next season, but can earn an additional $1.5 million based on in incentives.

For any of you bastards that still love this organization....or at least love who they used to be, I'd recommend checking out the annual Portsmouth Murals Baseball Banquet that is held in January. It honors some of the southern OH and Kentucky guys that have gone on to have a career in baseball and all centers around Portsmouth native & resident Gene Bennett who was a scout for the Reds for 50+ years and was responsible for signings of guys like Barry Larkin and Paul O'Neill. (Apparently he nearly quit/got fired when he got overruled on taking Derek Jeter and they took Chad Mottola instead.)

Some of the key note speakers they've had over the last 13 years include Marty, Chris Welsh, George Grande, Hal McCoy, Tom Browning, former umpire Charlie Reliford, and current umpires Randy Marsh and Greg Gibson. Last night's keynote was former Reds second baseman Doug Flynn (reserve on the 75-76 teams) and he was fantastic.

In attendance, among others were former Pirate Al Oliver, Tom Browning, Don Gullett, former Buckeye/Rockie Josh Newman, Greg Gibson, Charlie Reliford, and mishmash of other relatively obscure players (Larry Luebbers, John Hernstein, Johnnie LeMaster, Ron Mullins, Ron Nitzwicz, Walt Terrell, Dave Tomlin).

It's kind of a podunk setup overall, but was pretty awesome to get to hear baseball stories from guys like Gibson, Oliver, Gullett, and Flynn.
