Cincinnati Reds season going down the drain...

i cant stand people who dogg jr. is it his fault he gets hurt? should he try a little less harder to catch that deep fly ball? maybe he shouldnt dive....just let it bounce in front of him. then you would love him right? maybe he shouldnt try to score from second on a weak blooper. im sure you would get up and applaud him for stopping at third when you need 1 run in the 9th.
Personally I think jr would be better off playing for an AL team where he could DH most of the time. I wouldn't want him to not give 100%, but he might want to take it easier unless the team really needs the play. Would you rather him stop at 3rd and lose a game or try for home blow out his hammy halfway there, lose the game, and lose him for the rest of the season?

First of all let me say I am not a reds fan but I do follow their scores, but I have a problem with Griffey, because it is obvious he is injury prone but yet he does not seem to come into camp in shape (like 80% of all baseball players), this guy has a problem with his hammy's and he knows it, since he is aware of it, why not between innings doesnt he ride a bike to stay loose? (like they do in football) Everytime I see him he is sitting on the bench, smiling at the camera, its my opinion he has only been driven by reaching 500 homeruns so he can get into the hall, the guy used to be a great player, but the fact he never took care of his body, has cost him......let him try to keep up with Roger Clemons and his workouts......

The guy was brought to cincy to win and he hasnt produced, time to release the guy and eat his salary.

Different year, same injury......its a pattern

Great post BuckeyeNation27! People who bitch about Griffey when he gets hurt are the same people who love him when he is healthy. It is frustrating that he gets hurt alot, but he plays hard and I'm not going to fault him for that. Cincinnati fans are so fair weathered. I love the Reds, but I can't stand most Cincinnati fans.

People should be directing their blame towards Graves and their sorry ass bullpen instead of Jr.

If Bud would sell the team they will turn around. It's hard to follow the Brewers even here in Wisconsin because nobody cares about them. Miller park is a joke, they spent all that money and the roof still leaks. I live in Appleton (for two more weeks) and this is where the Wisconsin Timberrattlers play which is Class A for Seattle. They have a bigger following than the Brewers do. I like the Brew Crew and hope they can develop some of their talent and start winning.
Bud is selling the team. I like him though. It should be good though to have new ownership. I LOVE Miller Park. Yep, roof is a leaky faucet, but other than that, it is awesome. I think they will be better in about two maybe three years.

Bucklion - I am a Brewer fan too since I live in northern Illinois

- WOW. I was too for most of my life. I lived in the NW burbs - way out there. Elgin area. Born in Milwaukee though. Mostly sCrUBS fans. HATE EM!!!! GO CREW!

Obviously you don't follow the Reds because Jr. came into spring in great shape this year...

BSH,

Yeah, I live in Lindenhurst and work in North Chicago, so I'm way up here too...just got here in January...nice to get some games on the radio. I used to love the old guard: Cooper, Ogilve, Yount, Vuk, but my favorite was Gorman Thomas. Never got to see them much, but I sure remember the WS.

Wow. Yep. I was 12 when they went to the World Series. UNbelievable. I lived in and was born in Milwaukee for the better part of my young years. I was always a Yount fan. Still am. I think he was the epitome of a real ball player. Never said much, played everyday, ran the bases hard EVERY TIME. just fantastic. I liked yelling " cooooooooooooop" whenever he would come up in a crucial time. Benji was awesome. Gorman Thomas is still a folkhero up there. I liked Charlie Moore too. He threw out Reggie Jackson at third...it was probably still one of my favorite plays. Gantner, Molly, and all of Harvey's wallbangers.

ah the good times......

Yeah BSH, those were the days. Funny too, but if you remember the Royals, Padres, Pirates, Twins, all had good seasons back in that era too. Hard to believe there was a time the season didn't start with half the teams out of contention, but that was a wonderful time in baseball, because you also had players on every team (Yount, Brett, etc.) you could count on being there each and every year. THAT was when baseball was really fun for me.

In his mind he came to camp in great shape, but three straight years of the same bs.....maybe its time to change your workout or look at strengthing your legs...just a hunch.

Your getting paid millions, get off the golf course and work on your weakness so you can stay on the field and help your team win, otherwise your just a glorified ball boy for half the year as usual.

I agree with you on the bullpen. The bullpen has been terrible.

This is my opion on Griffey: I am not a fair weathered fan. I love the Reds and everything about them. I will never give up on my team but i am really disappointed with them here as of late. When the season started I gave Griffey the benifit of the doubt. Everyone was dogging him for injuries that I felt he can't help. But when he has been hurt a couple times this year already you began to question his workout ethic. I have heard reports that he doesn't practice with the team. He promotes team but doesn't practice with them? I don't know if this is true but come on! He should hire a personal strength trainer just for his legs. He is costing Cincy alot of money. Do what it takes to stay on the field. How many players show up to Spring Training, then get hurt. #1 reason mainly is because they didn't train in the off season. I know Griffey said that he trained hard and long in the off season but what kind of workouts was he doing? Yoga? You have to keep your body in shape as you get older or you will fall apart! Known fact! Look at some of these older guys like Clemens, Bonds, Thome, Bagwell, etc. I love the reds. They are my team but they have to trade for some pitching and let Griffey go! Love me or hate me for that one but he is only hurting the team not helping them by staying on the DL!

I should have mentioned that my above comment wasn't directed at anyone in particular. It was just a generalization. With that said, I stand by my opinion that ALOT of Cinci fans (Bengals and Reds) are very fair weathered.

In regards to Jr., I don't want to sound like I am a huge fan of his (because I am not), I just think that he gets a bad rap and ever since his first injury, he hasn't received a fair shake from the fans/media. Yes, he makes alot of money, but he could have made a boat load more somewhere else. Instead, he wanted to play in front of his home team. I don't think people commend him enough for that.

As far as his training goes, I have no idea what he does in the offseason. It was said that he was in great shape this spring training and with the way he started off this year, I believe it. If he doesn't practice with the team, that is bullshit. I have no idea if that is true either. No one can argue that the Reds are a better team with him in the lineup though.

Even if the Reds traded Jr., Linder's cheap ass would probably get nothing in return for him. They would probably get more outfield prospects like they always receive for their best players.

The problem with the Reds in a nutshell is the following:

1. Ownership
2. Pitching

It's not Ken Griffey, Jr.

...end rant

Edit: You left out a bracket on the quote. I put it in for you. - JC

cinncinatti fan here.. not old enough for the big red machine, but i do miss chris sabo, and maybe its only the fans actually IN cincy that are fair weathered cuz while they are hard to find i know a number of bengals fans myself included who will own up to it even in the late 90's.. i always thought the cleveland fans were fair weathered, not so much the browns, but the indians.. they just pissed me off cuz they multiplied faster than rabbits once the indians won a few games when before that i had known ONE family who would admit to following the team.. maybe these teams fair weather fans are the same people, they just keep both teams gear in storage to wear when its "cool" to do so... yea.. the reds suck.. theyve got a lot of promising hitters, a few decent pitchers but no GOOD ones.. as for griffey, HE TOOK LESS MONEY TO PLAY HERE SO EVERYONE CAN BACK OFF! i dont care if he gets hurt and never plays a game again or tells the fans to fuck off and leaves for NY now, he came here to play for his hometown team and the fans turned on him so now they deserve whatever they get..
go reds
go bengals
GO BUCKEYES, KILL MICHIGAN!

I agree with the last two posts...

You guys hit it on the head! Cincy needs to make things happen as far as pitching. Go out this off season and get some quality guys. This spring training they had like 50 some pitchers in camp. You think they would have found a couple diamonds in the ruff but they were only looking for quantity not quality! Stop looking at these over the hill guys and get you some young fresh arms, lefties to win you some champoinships. I know there are some free agents that wouldn't mind pitching for the reds but they don't persuse anybody but scrubs.

Kudos to Willy Mo Pena last night for robbing Pujols of a 3 run shot! Keep going after guys like him and in no time you'll have a winning team!

Out!:oh: :io: :osu4: :gobucks3: :osu4: :gobucks4: :box:
