Thump

Hating the environment since 1994
  • If this needs moved I totally understand.

Yesterday I had two of my kids in the car as we were in line at the car wash and on the tailgate of the truck in front of me was a sticker stating, “F*CK Biden” in large font and in small font under it, “and everyone who voted for him.”

I’ve also seen numerous “F*CK Biden” flags around as well. Keep in mind, I am a Republican.

Instead of obscenely, denigrating something that one disagrees with, how about lifting up something which you support?

If you want to fly a Trump flag with him riding on a tank, fine with me. If you want to fly a Biden/Harris flag, fine.

The vulgar, public displays are disappointing and sad.

    End of rant.

Sadly it's because politics has become a zero sum team sport to a lot of people.
During the 2020 campaign season, the wife had a couple stickers on her car. Nothing vulgar, just garden variety stickers showing who she supported. She had her car keyed once, and in a BigBox Mart parking lot actually had someone tell her she should be shot because of who she supported. I honestly don't know if we can really go back from this division and hate, It's impossible to have any kind of discussion or debate without it sinking to name calling and threats. This really saddens me,

I don't like open profanity, not saying I won't drop a few F bombs here and there but having vulgarities printed on a shirt, bumper sticker...etc is just dumb and uncalled for.

I think social media has had a lot to do with it. People find their tribes on FB, Twitter, etc., and spend their time in echo chambers where anyone who doesn't agree with them is demonized as an enemy. That mentality, unfortunately, sticks with them when they're out in the real world.

I've had long-time friends stop speaking to me since the 2016 election, choosing people online who they've never even met. It didn't get any better with all that went on in 2020. It just gets worse.

It’s sad but it’s also dangerous. There was a reputable survey done a while back where 15-20% of people from each party thought the world would be better off if large numbers of the other party just died.

When you start identifying people as a member of a group, you dehumanize them. It’s a big step on the road to some evil shit.

People need to wake up and realize they are being played by others who want money/power and are pandering to them to achieve that aim.

Stop being so fucking ideological. Be practical.

I am not on social media and it seems that is a good choice!

I’ve stated before, once an election is over, I do not wish anything negative if the person elected was not a candidate for whom I voted.

    That’s “Un-American” and sub-human in my opinion.

I’m more worried about sub-human behavior from angry mobs than anything a POTUS may do but I hear you. This shit has gone way too far.

Without a doubt the internet and social media are one of the biggest problems.
Remember back in the 90s and early 2000s we were all in awe of what the internet's potential was? It was going to be mankind's greatest achievement. We would have the knowledge of all humanity at our fingertips and be able to instantly share it around the world.
Now I have this mental picture of Tim Berners-Lee in some run down hotel, sitting in a ratty old recliner in a dirty T shirt, ashtray full of old butts on a table next to him and a bottle of Wild Turkey in his hand just muttering to himself "WTF did I do?"

My own mother wouldn't talk to me for 5 years because she posted a shopped picture of trumps parents in KKK gear and I showed her the original and that was too much for her. My sister too though it was more for fear that our mom would get upset at her for talking to me, it was all over politics.

It couldn't be just over politics. I think she doesn't like you for some other reason and was just looking for an excuse.
