  • Would it help anything to clean up / purge all inactive member accts that have not logged in since .. say 12/31/10 ??

Maybe send a mass PM to all member accts this pertains to... with a notice that says.. if you don't log in within the next 30 days, this acct will be purged

I suspect as many as half the member accts are no longer valid.. and a general clean up might help... in maintenance and storage

could this cleanup include posts from inactive accts too?

    thoughts?

My real thoughts on that issue..
is that anyone that has been a member longer than 3 or 4 years... and never contributing ever...
should be read-only access.. especially folks with >5000 posts
Script, Stow, etc.. I love those guys but they really piss me off

Hard core Italians... we believe you contribute...
if you're gonna eat... you bring something to Sunday meals

I agree with this. I wanted a name change but the name I wanted has been inactive since 2005 and never one post from the account.

Alice D. Millionaire was and is available.

As is Black Peter, Tennessee Jed, August West, and St. Stephen. Among quite a few others, including Saint of Circumstance, Lost Sailor, Cassady, and Row Jimmy. There's Alligator, the Eleven, AM Dew, Dark Star, and even Quodlibet for tender feet

Just sayin... don't limit yourself. Caution. Do not step on tracks.

Nah, the accounts and their post histories are part of BP's history. When looking back at old posts, I'd rather see all the posts than gaps. And there are some people who wandered off who really ought to find their way back sometime.

Purging accounts would probably give the database fits, what with all the renumbering of every user ID and post, plus lots of potential side effects to add-ons.

On the topic of banners... they are not required, but I think people do notice when regular posters don't have one. Heck, throw in a dollar, if nothing else. Those add up.
