Cleveland Browns (2011 season)

The Curse of Kelly Holcomb - when will it end?

Since the Browns blew a 12 point lead in the 4th quarter in a playoff game at Pittsburgh the Steelers have won 17 of 18 versus Cleveland, and a couple of Super Bowls.

Cleveland hasn't had a winning season since then.

Hey, at least we aren't the Bills!

Another kick in the balls today at the end of the game CBS put up the longest playoff droughts in the NFL and the Browns were tied for second longest with the Raiders. Ugh.

At least the Bills have been to the Super Bowl and more than once....the Browns can't claim that....

What I don't get is that it seems every team in the league gets at least decent every now and again. The league is set up that way now.

Christ, the Bengals are in the playoffs. They are accidentally good this year. I grew up in the 80s and 90s. The fucking Saints are a powerhouse right now. I never thought I'd see the day. The Seahawks won a playoff game last year. The Rams won a Super Bowl. Tampa Bay???

I just don't get it. Like the man said, it's almost impossible to not even accidentally be good once in awhile, yet here the Browns sit at 4-12 and with just about NO hope for getting any better in the foreseeable future.

The fan base deserves better. Lerner needs to wake the fuck up and start kicking some asses to get this ship straightened out.

Man, I wish Mark Cuban would buy this team. That would be a dream come true.

I highly doubt that. There is just no basis to believe that he can make that much difference. There are no other play makers to compliment him.

This is what I struggle with. You have to try and surround Colt with some guys that can actually play football. I love Robo, but the fact that he was a starter at one point tells you all you need to know about the Browns WRs. And Little is great, but he isn't a number one WR. Far from it. Can Colt throw down field? Who the fuck knows because there isn't a WR worth throwing to.

Hillis is gone (good riddance) so who's the running back? I still think that Trent Richardson is the only guy to pick up with the 4. Then a tackle. Then a WR. Also, this team needs to be active in free agency. Good God, there are so many holes. And they are going to have to over pay for players to come to Cleveland, but they have the money right?

CB, WR, OL, RB, S and maybe QB. If they draft RGIII then we have our answer about Colt's arm strength.

I agree with the group saying get a WR.

What the hell is the point of starting over again with a QB? Get some playmakers on offense, even if the QB doesn't work out, at least there may be some offensive talent to attract other QBs in FA down the road. I can live with Richardson too, but how can we even evaluate a QB with the shit talent the Browns have had at wideout?

Seriously, who's the best WR the Browns have had since their return? Kevin Johnson? Dennis Northcutt? Braylon f'n Edwards?! Get a fucking receiver please.

It's really hard to say on Colt's arm strength. It seemed like he could wing it pretty good in college. That last second pass he threw against the Bucks in the bowl game was a bullet. I know a lot of people were down on Quinn, but I always thought that a lot of the play designs and a lot of the protection issues caused him to throw short passes.

IMO if the team that played today is the team that shows up for 16 games next season, with a new OC, Richardson, hopefully Floyd, 3-4 draft picks on D, and a couple new OL they will win at least 6 games. They need play makers, but they should be able to get at least two in the draft with 4 other draft picks that you would expect to be starters. OG and DE should be easy positions to fill with FA's.
Maybe I'm looking on the bright side too much, but I don't think they are that far away with the right moves. If I'm wrong and they are as bad next year as they were this year they can pick a QB with their first pick and at least he'll have better weapons to succeed. I'd still sign Hillis if he will sign for the right price with no more than 2 years. If not I'd look to franchise him and then work a trade. Another season of Hillis with Richardson wouldn't be a bad thing. If they do end up picking QB at 4/5 I'll switch over to glass half empty.
