Please don't post in the Browns thread on the first day of practice. I figured the post was going to be Weeden and Richardson ran into each other on the first snap and will both miss the season.

I think they better babysit Gordon because he also failed the drug test at Utah which he originally said that he had passed. He said he is clean now and will pay back the Browns for drafting him with the supplemental pick but 3 times is a little scary.

This is why they really need apartments at the practice facility for high risk players. Only let him out for games. It's probably worth 50K a year to pay someone be with him 24/7 to make sure he stays clean.

They might not have to rent an apartment but they might want to think about putting an electronic monitoring device around his ankle and only take it off when it is state taped.

Having been out of football because of his suspension at and subsequent transfer from Baylor, the guy is understandably behind in his physical conditioning, although he has plenty of time to catch up before the Sept. 9 season-opener against Philadelphia.

I want to see this guy on the field in a preseason game.

Browns owner Randy Lerner, who shot down rumors over the past few months that the Browns were for sale, released a statement today saying he's in negotiations with Tennessee businessman Jimmy Haslam, a minority owner of the Steelers.
The following is Lerner's full statement:
"In connection with current rumors and press inquiries, I can report that I've been approached by Mr. Jimmy Haslam, who is interested in making an investment in the Cleveland Browns. We are currently in negotiations and both sides have agreed to keep that dialogue and its details private. Given that any transaction would require League approval, care has been taken so that this process will not be disruptive to the organization, in particular the football team, as it prepares for the upcoming season. We will share further details or make an announcement if it becomes necessary."
Haslam is President of Pilot Flying J Travel Centers, the nation's largest retail operator of travel centers and truck stops.

I think a change would be good...Owners in football are held accountable for their front office moves and the browns no doubt have made some disastrous ones...i have no idea who the fuck this Haslam guy is, but as long as he is more concerned with the state of the browns and not his dumb soccer team in england then im cool with it

Cleveland Browns owner Randy Lerner is in negotiations to sell at least part of his team to Jimmy Haslam, a minority owner in the Pittsburgh Steelers, according to a statement released by Lerner.

Lerner?s use of ?investment? has raised questions about whether he is selling the entire team or just a minority stake in the club. So far, media members have reported that the discussions are about selling the team itself.

There have been rumors over the past two months that the Browns were for sale. A spokesman for the team had denied those rumors in June.
Earlier Friday morning, ESPN 850 in Cleveland reported that while there wasn?t yet a deal in place, there was ?smoke and fire? surrounding a potential purchase of the Browns.
Lerner has run the team since October 2002, when he inherited the franchise from his late father Al Lerner.
Haslam is the CEO of Pilot Corporation, which is best known for its Pilot Flying J travel centers. ProFootballTalk?s Mike Florio reported Friday that Haslam has been a Steelers? minority owner since 2008.

You just need an owner that doesn't treat the team like an ATM. As long as the owner hires the right people to run the organization and uses the whole salary cap that is all you need. I'm sure everyone would prefer Gilbert, but if this guy is used to doing things the Steelers way I don't see it being a bad thing.

I just don't understand why everyone has a distaste for Lerner. He is not a cheap owner and brought in the football minds (H & H) that everyone thought would turn the Browns around. He has Cleveland ties and I would hate to lose that because you never know what a out of towner is going to do. Plus, this investor has a very limited ownership in the Steelers so I don't know how much he knows about running a football franchise.

I would just like an owner that comes out and says we want to win and we are going to do everything we can to reward the best pro football fans in the world.

The status quo is not acceptable. These fans fill the stadium and buy the merchandise every season and the team on the field never even sniffs the play offs. The league is set up now so that every team is playing by the same set of rules. There are no haves and have nots like there are in MLB. Bring in a visible owner that is going to kick asses if things don't go well. Let the fans know that you care about winning.

I guess I don't understand what that has to do with the product on the field. He has given Holmgren and Heckert full control of the football operations and has given them all the resources, including money, to put a winning team on the field. I personally don't care if I see him or not.
