Cleveland Browns (2012 season)

I completely disagree, I would make that trade in a second. RG3 is a stud and he plays the most important position on the football team.

people were saying the same things about cam newton last year, and newton didn't sustain a concussion 5 games into his career. that trade may set the redskins back a very long time if RG3 isn't a world beater. they have no cap room, no draft picks, and are losing a few key players.

I keep hearing about guys that come from Philly being associated as "winners." First with Heckert, now Banner. Yeah they were a playoff team, but they didn't win a Super Bowl. To me, that truly defines a "winner" in the NFL. I really like Haslam, and am optimistic about the direction and trust that he believes Banner is the right guy, so I am OK with that, just not sure about throwing this "winning" tag around this much is applicable. Heckert was a "winner" from Philly too and how has that worked out?

this is correct, cleveland should only look to get guys from teams that won a superbowl. maybe they could pluck someone off the belichek tree. maybe someone like charlie weis, romeo crennel, josh mcdaniels, or scott pioli.

well, maybe cleveland should pluck from the ratbirds nest. maybe someone like phil savage, george kokinis, or marvin lewis.

Again.....just my opinion of what defines a winner. Not that your sarcastic rant wasn't appreciated.

I know those Eagles teams were good teams, just saying, can you truly be labeled a "winner" if you never won a Super Bowl? The other teams that were mentioned, all did that. The Eagles did not.

At this point, I'd dance a jig to go 9-7 and play in a wildcard game.

that's great, but what about their depth? their cap room? How about if they sustain an injury to RGIII that takes longer than a week for a concussion?

Kirk Cousins didn't look too horrific, but he's not RGIII. Nor does RGIII play defense, or offensive line, or running back or receiver.

The Redskins bought the farm with RGIII, and they also had fewer holes to fill than the Browns did. I don't think the Browns necessarily had to trade up to get Richardson but I'd do what they did compared to what the Redskins did 10 times out of 10.

Time will tell. I guess I would take being 3-3 right now over 1-5 and the Skins cap mess has nothing to do with the RG3 trade.

This year you are correct but just wait with no salary cap room and no first-round draft choices and with expiring contracts it's just a matter of time before they go back to where they were before they drafted III.

The point is, because of the trade, they do not have a 1st rounder until 2015. On top of that, with their cap issues, they're not going to be able to improve the roster thru FA.

Given all of that, RG3 may feel the need to take it all on himself and take a savage beating himself. It's not an enviable position.

Does it make them more fun to watch? Absolutely. A championship contender in the next few years? Very unlikely.

3-3 on a team that has the holes like the Browns do would be fool's gold at best and to be honest, I don't think they are any better than 2-4 right now with RGIII anyway.

my sarcastic rant shows that picking from what you define as a "winner" is no more likely to yield any success, which is the crux of your argument.

just so i understand, cleveland should choose from what you consider a winner, even though your definition of a winner has yielded a laundry list of failures both in cleveland and elsewhere over the last 5 years.

Well I consider Dan Fouts, Jim Kelly, and Bernie Kosar "winners". In any playoff format, the goal is to have a team that can get there (almost) every year. After that, it's one and done, so you take your chances. I know Cleveland fans would love to have NE's record over the past 10 years, even if they had won no Super Bowls. They are always relevant, always competitive, and always a pain in the ass to play. I'd take that any day at this point.

...and to be clear, I am in no way putting down RG3. He looks like an exceptional player. But, that trade was still crazy, and I'm glad the clowns didn't go full retard.

But the Browns also had more to offer, they had two firsts this year to bargain with and the Skins did not. Last I heard if the Browns had offered both firsts this past draft, their second rounder and the following year's #1 they could have gotten RG3. I make that deal.
