Cleveland Browns (2012 season)

http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/rapid-reports/post/17388537

Shurmur will keep play calling duties next year, Childress will be up in the booth. Not really a surprise but looks like this is the first time the Browns have come out and said it.

I'm starting grow on drafting RG3, but I don't think I'd even want to give up our 2nd rounder to move up to #2 to ensure we will get him. No one else projected to be a top 5 pick (besides Luck) excites me that much. I don't want to take a RB anywhere near the top 10, Blackmon I think will be solid but he is not a homerun type receiver, a la Eddie George errrrrrrrr I mean Calvin Johnson, worthy of a top-5 WR pick. Kalil is probably going to be a stud but we already have arguably the best LT in the league. Claiborne would be a nice addition. Don't think corner is a big enough hole to warrant another top-10 pick on one (and I kind of want the Browns to draft Minnifield's kid), but if the Browns deem him to be the BPA, I could live with it.

trent richardson just had his knee scoped. that needs to play into the equation, no matter how minor.

I'm fully convinced the clowns will go full retard and trade up for RG3, or something even more retarded and draft Ryan Tannehill at # 4 or #22 or with our 2nd round pick....... I really really hope we don't but its the kind of colossal fuckup this franchise is known for....

under the phil savage regime this argument would work.

So you are saying we are not going to trade up or are you saying that we are not going to draft Tannehill

i'm saying phil savage would massively overpay to trade up, like he did for brady quinn, like he did for martin rucker, like he did to get dqwell jackson, and like he tried to do for jamarcus russell. luckily for the last one, al davis was just a little dumber.

Ohio State tackle Mike Adams said he's talked to the Browns and they've discussed playing him at right tackle.
by the end of the combine, he will probably talk to 90% of the NFL teams and they will all tell him that.

mike adams holds an inherently higher value in that he acts as insurance for the LT spot. That's why he'd be a perfect choice for Cleveland. By the time his rookie deal is up, Joe Thomas is at the end of his contract. Plus, if Joe Thomas were to ever get injured, Adams could flop sides, which is a much better alternative than brandon braxton or whatever other scrub cleveland has.

I could get behind drafting Big Mike with the ATL pick, if he's still there.

the full retard talk is going to be at an all high time after the combine...and to think we have 2 months before anything actually happens...lots of teams wanting to trade up or down so there is going to be ALOT of talk and ALOT of possibilities

both of these from today

According to the Canton Repository, the Browns "will make a play" for free agent Matt Flynn next month.

Beat writer Steve Doerschuk cites "conversations with the Browns and others" and admits the Dolphins are still the "likely lander" of Flynn. If the Browns do add Flynn, there would be no competition with Colt McCoy; Flynn would be the starter. If Cleveland does manage to land Flynn, the Rams would lose quite a bit of leverage in shopping the No. 2 overall pick for Robert Griffin III.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports the Rams have already had preliminary talks with "multiple teams" about trading up to No. 2 overall.

The Rams are willing to deal the pick for "the right package," of course. Vikings GM Rick Spielman is practically begging teams to trade up to the No. 3 spot, but he has no leverage with the Rams already holding an RGIII auction for the Browns, Redskins, Dolphins, and Seahawks. Schefter expects trade talks to "accelerate" once the free agent market plays out at quarterback.

I was just saying that most NFL teams are going to be telling him that they are going to be drafting him for the RT position.
However, I would not like to see the Browns use the Atlanta pick to select him. I understand the possible versatility he might bring but I think the Browns would be better served to look for a playmaker (offensively or defensively) with that pick.

I agree, though I would add that if the draft plays out in such away any playmakers worthy of that pick are gone but Adams is still on the board, he would be chief among Plan-B options for me.

RGIII just ran a 4.38 and a 4.41 40 (unofficially)...fastest time for a QB in the combine ever...combine this with checking in at 6'2 3/8, and if he throws perfect passes at his pro day for the scouts and i think every scout and media persons head will explode...peter king was already saying before RGIII ran his 40 times that for the browns it would take their 1st, 1st (22nd), and at least a 2nd round pick as well...i expect this now to be the minimum as well unless he does terrible throwing the football

Hey, Mary Kay: If I were in charge this off-season I would re-sign Peyton Hillis, sign DeSean Jackson, draft Justin Blackmon with the fourth pick, and OSU offensive tackle Mike Adams with the 22nd pick. I believe these moves would provide Colt McCoy with the tools for success. If McCoy doesn't improve after these moves are made, then I would make quarterback a priority in 2013. -- Bill Vasil, Westerville
Hey, Bill: All of those moves would greatly improve the offense and give McCoy some much-needed weapons. But if the Browns love RG3 and can get him, they should do it as opposed to waiting for a QB next year when they might not be picking so high. I said might not.

Hey, Mary Kay: Why do people say the Browns need to fill other positions first and quarterback later? Of 12 playoff teams, eight QBs were first rounders, one was traded for (Schaub) and another a free agent Pro Bowler (Brees). That's 10 out of 12 playoff teams placing real emphasis on the 1uarterback. The only exceptions were Tom Brady (picked when Drew Bledsoe was on the roster) and Andy Dalton (second round). Isn't it time to stop with the draft sliders (McCoy, Quinn), scrap heaps (Anderson, Garcia) and fourth rounders (Frye) and get a quarterback? -- Doug Shaffer, Orange, Calif.
Hey, Doug: You're right. You have to have the QB -- especially in this pass-happy era -- and then go from there. Since the Browns already have their Pro Bowl left tackle, next on the agenda would be a top-flight receiver.

1. It was encouraging to hear the Browns plan to sign a veteran receiver, no matter what else they do in the draft. They really have only one receiver who should be assured of a job for 2012 -- Greg Little. After that, I hear the Browns think Jordan Norwood is the only one who impressed. Mohamed Massaquoi battled injuries (foot and concussions) and didn't show much. Joshua Cribbs also is in the mix, but the Browns also want him active on special teams.

5. Wouldn't it be nice if the Browns actually had a low-round pick develop into a viable wide receiver? Instead, they have picked six receivers in the second round since 1999. Only Little is still with the team. The others were Kevin Johnson (1999), Dennis Northcutt (2000), Quincy Morgan (2001), Andre Davis (2002), Brian Robiskie (2009) and Massaquoi (2009).

12. Mario Manningham from Warren Harding certainly would be open to coming to the Browns. He is not likely to resign with the Giants, who have Hakeem Nicks and Victor Cruz at receiver. The 25-year-old Manningham has caught 146 passes in the last three years. He has to be considered by the Browns. He's more than a guy who had a good Super Bowl.

Citing league sources, Mike Freeman of CBSSports.com reports "at least" three teams, including the Redskins, Dolphins, and Seahawks, are "strongly considering" a blockbuster trade with the Rams to draft Robert Griffin III at No. 2 overall.

Team sources also tell Freeman that the Browns have interest in trading up, "though not as much as the other teams." While the Dolphins are interested "despite their Matt Flynn infatuation," the Redskins "remain the front-runners." Team officials label the Seahawks the "sleeper team" hindered by the prohibitive cost of trading up from twelfth to second. The three teams reportedly view RGIII as a "close facsimile" to Andrew Luck in terms of NFL potential.
