Cleveland Browns (2012 season)

Bucklion;2142099; said:
Kinda shocked this weekend to see that Terry Pluto, who is less clueless than the other sportswriters in Cleveland, said the Browns are probably going with Claiborne based on his sources. He's the first person here I have seen say that publicly. It does go to the theory though that no one, including Cleveland, knows what they're doing with it yet.

i read that article and i think he was basing the claiborne stuff on if someone moves up to #3 to take Richardson

2nd-Round QB Success Rate

Second-round quarterbacks since Brees:

Andy Dalton (Bengals), 2011
Colin Kaepernick (49ers), 2011
Jimmy Clausen (Panthers), 2010
Pat White (Dolphins), 2009
Brian Brohm (Packers), 2008
Chad Henne (Dolphins), 2008
Kevin Kolb (Eagles), 2007
John Beck (Dolphins), 2007
Drew Stanton (Lions), 2007
Kellen Clemens (Jets), 2006
Tarvaris Jackson (Vikings), 2006

*No quarterbacks were drafted in the second round of the 2002-2005 drafts.

Dalton did show some signs that he'll be able to handle the position capably, but he will have to contend with physical limitations for the duration of his pro career. The league also seemed to catch onto Dalton's act as his first season progressed. In the Bengals' final nine games, including the playoffs, Dalton completed just 169-of-301 passes (56.1%) for 1,959 yards (6.51 YPA) with seven touchdowns and 12 turnovers. The jury is still very much out on last year's 35th overall pick.

The NFL's history of second-round quarterback whiffs extends around Brees and and all the way back to Brett Favre ('91).

Now that the draft is getting closer, time to dive into the Browns thread. read the last few pages and don't feel like going any further... so here it goes.

#1 - DON'T PICK RICHARDSON!!!! For all that is mighty this will piss me off the most of any draft scenario. RBs don't mean shit in this league anymore. So why waste a Top 5 pick on one? Yeah he might be the next Adrian Peterson... but where is he right now? On a team picking ahead of us in the draft sitting at home with a knee injury. I would much rather have Wilson/Peed/Martin in the 2nd round, and pick another one late in the draft.

#2 - You can't pick Khalil, we have Joe Thomas at LT. But Piney... move him to RT. First off you don't pick RT at #4, second off he has played LT all of his life. It is NOT easy moving from LT to RT. I also read somewhere a month or two ago that Khalil is a pure LT and would not translate well to RT. Don't ask me why... just something I read.

#3 - Tannehill ain't so bad. But I don't like him at #4 either. Just a tad bit high for me. Him at 22 would have been great, but now he won't get out of the Top 10... just sad...

#4 - WHERE ARE MY ELITE D-LINEMAN??? Wish a nice pass rush DE was worthy of a Top 5 pick

#5 - Really the top of this draft seems really BLAH after Luck/Griffin. I really wanted Blackmon but he isn't THAT much better than Floyd/Wright and isn't as good as AJ Green/Julio Jones from last year.

#6 - Screw you Claiborne... why did you score that rumored 4 on the wonderlic??? Otherwise he would have been worthy of the #4 pick... and with the bunch available... he is still the best pick at #4.

So what does this all mean??? TRADE DOWN!!! Would LOVE the trade down to St Louis and then trade down to Philly... you load up with picks and then move back UP to get who you want. Heck, try to grab a 1st rounder for next year during the trade down. We hopefully will need the ammo to trade up to get our QB next year. :sad2:

Yeah, 15 might be too low... but you can always then use one of the 2nd rounders we get to move back up to 9-11 to get a Floyd/whoever falls like Blackmon/Claiborne???

Here are my toughts on the number 4 pick. I really want Richardson and think that he should be the pick. However, if they went with Blackmon I wouldn't hate it. It is an area of need that we need to address. The pick also makes sense. I wouldn't even hate if they got Claiborne, although we need way more help on offense. If we got Tannehill I would go berzerk. We do not need a project at QB, least yet with the weapons we have.

Richardson is the best pick in that slot but I would not hate nor would I be surprised to see Blackmon go there. Claiborne wouldn't be the worst pick either.

For the record basically the only person in the Cleveland media still convinced they will take Blackmon is Mary Kay Cabot...everyone else is going Richardson (she wrote so herself this weekend).
and you thought Tony Grossi was bad.

Seriously. Tannehill "isn't so bad" in round 3 or 4. In the 1st round, you're falling victim the epidemic of overvaluing marginal qb prospects.

This X a million. It's like you find your dream girl sitting at the bar, in fact there are 2, Kate Upton and Kate Beckinsdale, and you offer to spend every dime you have on either for the rest of your life if she'll marry you, and they reject you for someone slightly better, or at least slightly more valuable. Well Tannehill is the third ugly friend at the bar with 6 teeth downing 20 ouncers by the dozen and sitting on her fourth plate of nachos. There's lots of other attractive girls all over the fucking restaurant...go find one.

2-14 at best and that might be a stretch.

Hell they could go full tilt with all of their "starters" in the pre-season and not win anything.....

Don't look at the schedule to find out how many they'll win or lose. Look at a mock draft for next year instead. The Browns will win precisely as many games as needed to preclude them from drafting the player they need the most.
