CLEVELAND -- Former Bears tight end Kellen Davis is visiting the Browns today, a source confirmed for the Plain Dealer.

The visit was first reported by ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Davis (6-7, 267) was released by the Bears last week after they signed free agent tight end Martellus Bennett.

I wonder how much the Browns will save this year by not re-signing Dawson because he did not really sign a lucrative contract with the 49ers. By the time the Browns sign another placekicker, I doubt if they will save that much money. Dawson is a very class guy by not telling if the Browns may any offer at all. This will come back and bite the Browns and they will lose one or two games this season because of it.
CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Former Browns kicker Phil Dawson, on a conference call with Cleveland media today, declined to say if the Browns made him an offer before he signed a one-year deal with the 49ers.

"I appreciate the interest in that, but I'm 100% moving forward and that's just how I'm going to roll with this.''

The Browns are not believed to have been serious about re-signing the 14-year Browns veteran before he signed with San Francisco for a reported $2.25 million, including $1 million guaranteed.

All the speculation is that Dawson made it known he wanted to go to a contender and wasn't interested in a long term deal. Especially with Cleveland.

how can anyone blame dawson for doing what he did? i keep hearing shit on the radio and conversations from friends who are pissed beyond belief that dawson went to San Fran....the guy was with the team since 1999 and made the playoffs once...he could of left a looong time ago and didnt...the guy should be rewarded for how long he stayed here so I dont understand at all how anyone could be pissed at him for leaving

Dawson is the definition of 'opposite' in comparison to say... Lebitch.

He wants to see the playoffs, he wants to taste perhaps a SuperBowl. I applaud his decision and absolutely have no ill will towards him. Nor should anyone else and shame on those that do. He gave a large commitment to this organization and has been nothing but class. I hope he gets his ring.

now they are really getting serious:wink:
CLEVELAND, Ohio - The Browns have signed former Bears tight end Kellen Davis and former Falcons cornerback Chris Owens to one-year contracts, continuing their run of free-agent signings.

Davis (6-7, 267) was released by the Bears last week after they signed free-agent tight end Martellus Bennett. Davis also reportedly visited the Steelers and Saints, and drew interest from the Bengals.

Profootballtalk.com first reported Davis' signing.

“Kellen has played a lot in this league and has starting experience,” Browns head coach Rob Chudzinski said in a team release. “His size and strength give him the ability to be a good blocker. He is a big guy who can run and provides a big target. We feel like he has a chance to help us at the tight end position."

Originally a fifth-round pick of the Bears in 2008 out of Michigan State, Davis, 27, became the Bears' starting tight end in 2011 when Greg Olsen was traded to the Panthers, but he failed to live up to expectations. Last season, he struggled with drops, and caught only 19 passes for 229 yards and two TDs.

In January, Bears general manager Phil Emery acknowledged that Davis had "a rough season.'' At 6-7, 267, Davis never became the athletic tight end the Bears hoped he'd be. Their starting tight end the past two seasons, he caught 37 passes for 435 yards and six touchdowns.

Went from ecstatic about free agency to ugh....Kruger and Bryant were a nice start but nowhere near all we needed...we haven't addressed OG or CB at all.. I am disappointed.

Now we just need to f**k up the draft to complete this wonderous offseason!

Haslam was on 850 the other day and said their plan was to spend half their cap space this year and the other half next year, they didn't want to go all in this year and have nothing to work with next year. Can't blame them, outside of getting Grimes on a good deal this year I'd add some depth like we are and move to the draft, have plenty of cash to make moves next year as well.

I guess I am fine with that as long as they can sign Grimes or somebody as good as him and get some depth at OG.
