As Steele pointed out he was on his back all night but still managed to throw for 300+ yards... Darnold reminds me a great deal of Matthew Stafford and there's no denying this kids talent. He's big, he's more mobile than people give him credit for and of course he has very good arm.

His knocks are his decision making and if the Browns for once sat their rookie QB for an entire year or two IMO he could become a very good QB.

As for Barkley? I think he's on the level of a Zeke.. I personally choose Zeke because he is good after contact but Barkley can no doubt be a Fournette, Gurley or Zeke type of impact year 1. Barkley can catch, he's really really sudden, and he's big enough to get a tough yard when needed.

Bottom line this team needs A LOT. So you take players who are safe IMO and not "projects"... IMO, Barkley is a safe bet to be successful and the Browns could use a whole lot of "successful"

Barkley is awful after contact.
He shies away from contact.
He plays like Eric Metcalf with the body of a power back ... people see the highlights of his big runs and the numbers of his size... but he doesnt have the smashmouth mindset.
He's a great player but no 'stud'. I doubt he has speed to be Metcalf in the NFL, and again doesnt deal with contact. He gets worse after 15 carries, worse in the 4th Q.

He'll be a great x-factor piece for somebody catching out of the backfield or where he can be part of a backfield duo.
But Browns already have Duke.

Barkley is this year's media hype player. Which is exactly why everyone is saying Browns. They let Kiper do their scouting.

I don't know, I think Rosen's gonna be a very good NFL QB. Problem is, if they draft him, does he hold them hostage?

If they knew Rosen wasn't going to cause any drama, I'd take him #1 without hesitation. Just let him sit for a year, and break the cycle of endlessly throwing your shiny new toys out behind a wall of [Mark May] to get all broken. But, given what he has said, it doesn't appear it would be drama-free.

I say fuck it. Let him be drama... its drama w/o him. Who cares?
He could hold out a whole year and it'd be a blessing in disguise if the browns were forced to find a Hoyer or Cousins.

He's the Luck this team has been waiting for. How cowardly is the FO?

Kirk Cousins is going to get a top-3 QB contract from somebody. I dare anybody to tell me Kirk Cousins is a top-3 QB. That would be an ENORMOUS waste of cash for a guy approaching 30 with a 26-30-1 career record as a starting QB.

He's not a bad QB by any means, but his bloated contract is going to kill somebody. He could easily be on his way to >$25M/per. Conversely, I think Alex Smith is due <12M, or half the price.

Browns have a huge budget... if thats the price to sit a #1 Rosen or #4 Allen for 3yrs of stability....it's worth it.
Your cap frees up to sign some more pieces just when you put your guy in. It's a sound strategy.

This is it. He'd be a very good player in an offense that throws it 65% of the time. Have to wonder if the Colts go after him if they hire McDaniels and they know Luck is going to be 100%.

I was with you until the Luck part. Is he really as good as Andrew Luck?

He is not. But as of me typing this, the best QB in this class and possibly the last few.

edit: That's also a lofty comparison being that Luck was the best Pro-ready QB since Peyton. It truly is a shame how badly they've fucked Andrew over in Indy. Kid could be great but was murdered repeatedly.

Benjamin Albright has been beating this drum for a while. He says Barkley is going to fall out of the top 7. He says he's been told that there are a lot of bad habits on his film that have scouts on the fence, primarily, his tendency to stop his feet behind the line of scrimmage, thereby blowing up blocking and making the ol look worse than they were.

Barkley only seems to get the yards his line blocks for. Even then there are times when I feel he could have churned out the tough YAC but doesnt because, well, he's a back that doesnt revel in contact.

But it's ok, I guess I just have Zeke Syndrome.

I hope your right... If the browns draft him 1 or 4 ... well lets just say I wouldn't be surprised in the least.

There's really little that the browns could do that would "surprise" me.

Actually, the thing that would surprise me the most is if the browns simply identified the best QB and took him at #1 and then simply took the best player on the board at #4 and called it a night.
