Cleveland Browns (Finally drafting Buckeyes)

I like the odds of the Browns trading OBJ as soon as they start coming into salary cap problems. They will have to extend Baker and Ward, whose rookie deals can run two more years, and that is going to cost them all the space they had left around that time.

I understand where you're coming from regarding trading OBJ to free up the money but if we trade him they are going to have to find a WR who can take the top off of defenses. Landry and Higgins do not have that type of speed. Maybe they could try and restructure OBJ and Landry contracts but not sure if they would buy that.

After this year he's got no more guaranteed $, so no dead cap, and will be out of contract after 2023... so, in the 2 year window discussed, the third will either be a bargain at 15 million, or he won't be worth that and you can cut him loose or maybe he takes less. Doesn't really matter. My guess is they spend one of the 3's or 4's on a pure speed guy and hope he develops into an actual good player. I'm hoping a full - more normal - offseason in the program does DPJ some good, but you can't look at him now as a top 2 dude.

CBS Mock Draft:

2021 NFL Mock Draft: Quarterbacks taken with first four picks, Patriots grab Mac Jones, Panthers trade up

Round 1 - Pick 26
Kwity Paye DL
MICHIGAN • SR • 6'4" / 272 LBS
PROJECTED TEAM: Cleveland
PROSPECT RNK: 8th
POSITION RNK: 1st

Cleveland is desperately searching for some edge rush assistance opposite Myles Garrett. If they add J.J. Watt in free agency, then edge rusher should not be ruled out but it makes it less pressing of a need.

J.J. Watt hints that Bills, Browns and Packers are the front-runners for his services in 2021

More than two weeks after he requested and received his release from the Houston Texans, J.J. Watt appears to be zeroing in on his next team. The three-time Defensive Player of the Year has reportedly gotten several lucrative offers since hitting the open market, and now the veteran pass rusher is hinting he's narrowed his wish list to three teams. As several on social media pointed out Monday, Watt has updated his bio on Peloton, the workout subscription service, to reference the Bills, Browns and Packers.

NFL insider notes: Expect another wave of big-name trades and not just QBs, plus Deshaun Watson clues and more

Stephon Gilmore, Odell Beckham and Von Miller are among candidates as more trades could come soon

The Browns aren't putting out any vibes about dealing Odell Beckham Jr., but that doesn't mean someone can't make a phone call that results in a deal.

Odell Beckham Jr. contract breakdown: Trade only way Browns could move on before 2021

Can the Browns get out of Odell Beckham Jr.'s contract?
The Browns won't be able to release Beckham prior to the 2021 season. That's because his contract becomes fully guaranteed on the third day of the league year in March, and since Beckham won't be healthy from his torn ACL at that point, Cleveland can't cut him.

Since the Browns will be paying Beckham in 2021 at least, he'll be playing for Cleveland unless the Browns choose to trade him. An Ian Rapoport report from November suggested that Beckham could be traded before the 2021 season begins.

Any potential trade is complicated by Beckham's return to health, which likely won't happy until the summer. An acquiring team couldn't be sure about Beckham's health for sure, at least as sure as they could be if Beckham had never torn his ACL in 2020.

Beckham could also be viewed as a risky proposition because of his relatively ugly departure from the Giants and what would likely amount to a similarly disappointing departure from the Browns. He's had health issues and not always been the best teammate, but Beckham can still play.

There are a number of teams in the NFL that are happy to take a chance on less-than-perfect characters, so that aspect shouldn't stop Beckham from being moved if the Browns want to deal him. The money he's still owed could be the toughest part to move, because not every team will be able to sink so much salary into an incoming wideout.

Anybody think that the Browns could get something for Beckham?

Good thing he's a "soldja" because he'll need to be in the slammer. Dude's got issues.

Winslow was convicted of forcible rape, rape of an unconscious person, assault with intent to commit rape, indecent exposure and lewd conduct in public. The forcible rape involved a woman who was homeless in his hometown of Encinitas, a beach community north of San Diego.

He has to have some "mental issues", check out how much he made (i.e. $43M) in the NFL: https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/new-york-jets/kellen-winslow-2356/cash-earnings/

otherwise, wouldn't you think he could just (easily) buy all the sex he wanted?

So it sounds like the NFL is going to see a bunch of 1 year wait out the low cap deals this offseason. I wouldn't recommend it, but the Browns could really go all in on the Super Bowl this year if they wanted to outbid everyone on a handful of the one year deals. If they are cutting a backup DE to save 3M I don't think that is the direction they are going to be moving in. Might get lucky and find a couple players willing to take multi-year deals based on 2021 cap numbers just to make sure they are covered down the road. The Browns should have the best mix of cap space and ability to win now to be a destination for some prime defensive players this year.

You have to think there are going to be a few more cap drop casualties of note as well (of the Kyle Van Noy variety) now.that the official number is set.

This is kind of a dangerous game for the players, I mean sure the cap is going to go up, but, if there's a bunch of one year deals, then there's gonna be a whole bunch of FA's in the class, and you get paid as much by being the 3rd best DE available as much as anything else... I suppose demand would go up, but cash strapped teams are.going tp look at it as 2 draft classes before 2022 starts.

My guess is, they try to get what the need in this cap number, then that stays the baseline and they use the increase to front load mayfield and Wards extensions.

That said, they need at least 2 DE's -- my tendency is to think they will sign one early, then draft best DL available with pick 1 or 2 then see what they need to pick up after that.

There should be a pile of reasonably priced DBs available. I think they're caught between there with Delpit and Williams about how much to invest.

Do they even use Linebackers?
