Cleveland Browns (Finally drafting Buckeyes)

Here's what I would rather see (not that I'm a fan of this joke of a franchise). Give up on Watson. Get Ryan who has two years left on his contract. Keep the draft picks. Draft a QB in the 23 draft and let them sit a year behind Ryan. The 23 draft should be a strong QB draft.

But what do I know?

I'd want no part in Robinson after what I saw last year following Field's. He quit on that team. Downright did not give a shit. And he's not OBJ/TO/Moss talented that you put up with that risk for the upside.

well, it was an ESPN talking head doing the raving... so I guess I shoulda considered the source

This is the Browns so I never feel good about looking for diamonds in the rough although DPJ helps with that. I blame that on Hairball being a shitty coach.

The new front office has done a pretty decent job drafting. All 7 picks from the 2020 draft not only made the team, but have seen extensive playing time. A far cry from drafting Vince Mayle in the 4th and cutting him in camp.
Likewise for the 2021 draft. The first 3 picks all saw starting time, the first two of those (Newsome and JOK) look like stars in the making.

Andrew Berry has bought a lot of goodwill with me in just a couple short years.

Word on Twitter is the Clowns are out of the Watson chase. YES!

Now we need him to go to ATL so the Clowns can get Ryan for a couple of seasons.
Isn't Matt Ryan's contract absurd? And isn't he essentially a less fat Ben Roethlisberger at this point? I don't know that bringing him on would be a very good move.

So, where do they go from here? You essentially lit your relationship with Mayfield on fire to go all-in on a guy with legal woes and who has apparently told you "no thanks." I don't see how you can move forward with Baker as your QB at this point.

You don't move forward with Mayfield and that's perfectly fine. Watson was the only realistic option to raise the ceiling of this team to that of a legit SB contender. They took a shot and came up short. See what kind of compensation you can yield for Mayfield in the trade market and bring aboard a veteran (Ryan, Garoppolo, Winston, Mariota, etc.) who can steward this offense until another opportunity at a star QB or draft day trade comes along. Shouldn't be hard to exceed the shit stat lines thrown up last season.

More evidence of bad decision making... media in those other towns will eat him alive... when the 22 civil suits come to surface again..
Cleveland media 'protects' folks that earn scrutiny.. Albert Belle, Manny.. even Hunt..
I could understand playing conditions could be a concern...His last game in Cleveland was a rough and extremely cold/windy experience...

I can't see any of those guys as an upgrade on Mayfield...assuming Baker's shoulder is healthy and he can return to his 2020 form. Ryan is old, obscenely expensive, a statue, and is declining; Jimmy G has serious limitations, gets hurt a lot and is prone to the same turnover issues Baker has; Winston chucked 30+ interceptions a couple of seasons ago, so if turnovers are a concern, that's a non-starter; Mariota is a total roll of the dice, but might be the best fit of the four of them.

I'm amused that Watson acts like any of the other options was a better choice. NO a few years ago sure. Now nope... ATL has been terrible the last few years and Carolina is consistently bad
Cleveland has been the worst franchise in the NFL, if not all of sports, for 23 years. The other 3 might not be in the best shape right now, but they've all had multiple runs of success during that same period. It's probably easier to trust them to get right. I'm from NE Ohio, love the area, but if I'm an NFL player with other options, the Clowns are at the bottom of the list of teams I would want to play for. Could be a weather thing, too...

Lol trust me I get it. I'm a Lions fan. From the Barry Sanders days their high point has been mediocre and their low points are more often and well yeah... But as for a benefit for him as a team in the next 3 years the Browns are the safest choice of any of those teams. Beyond that who knows but isn't his contract like 4 years so why should he care if NO or ATL will be better teams in 5-10 years
