Cleveland Cavs (2016 NBA Champions)

Looking at the playoffs as a whole doesn't tell the whole story--aside from the first two rounds in which his performance was about the same (against putrid teams that the Cavs swept), his performance has been steadily declining, to the point where he's barely been visible against Golden State:

Round 1: 18.8 ppg, 12.0 rpg, 39% from 3, 41% from the field
Round 2: 19.0 ppg, 13.0 rpg, 47.5% from 3, 32% from the field
Round 3: 15.2 ppg, 5.7 rpg, 44.8% from 3, 45% from the field
Round 4: 8.7 ppg, 6.0 rpg, 28.6% from 3, 37% from the field

looking at the playoffs as a whole isn't accurate? interesting theory. i suppose cherry picking stats is a better alternative.

It's so frustrating watching Kevin Love. He started his career as a post player and has seemingly forgotten/lost all confidence in that part of his game.

When Lebron is out of the game, I don't understand why you don't play a 1-in-4-out offense with Kevin Love in the middle. He's probably the tallest guy on the court as GS usually plays small. Put Irving on the weak side and have JR Smith pass to Kevin Love (think Sully and Diebler). He can either post up the smaller player or pass to JR Smith for an open 3 if there's a double-team from that side. If people start rotating after the pass from Kevin Love, the ball can end up in Irving's hands and he can do whatever he wants against a scrambling, rotating defense.

Breaking it down by round says a heck of a lot more than "he's still averaging 15 and 9". The question isn't whether Love puts up some numbers over the course of the year, but whether he's actually an integral piece to getting the Cavs past their best competition to win a championship?

If the Cavaliers traded Love, he would become an All-Star, not that he is not already, because any player traded from a Cleveland team becomes an All-Star.

Also, with regards to free-throw shooting, if a guy cannot shoot free throws, he should not be on a basketball court.

I'm not worried about Love's scoring from game 5. Lebron and Kyrie took 54 shots. There weren't many other shots to go around. I was just concerned with his low rebounding totals. 3 rebounds is just unacceptable. If Kryie and Lebron are rolling, they really don't need him to score. But he should always be rebounding.

Love was 1/5. It's not like he was jacking up shots all day and missing.

You know, I've always wondered, why is it that centers in particular tend to just be horrible at free throws? Is it because they typically just put in layups, dunks, and the occasional 5-10 footer and thus have 0 shooting form? Wouldn't that be fixed by all the other work they put in, and FT practice? It just seems so odd that one particular position is notoriously bad at FTs, but I never really thought about it much before right now.

My reading on it is that their height makes it more if a flat shot when they shoot it the traditional way. They just never seem to want to or be able to put enough arc on it. They also never get friendly bounces, so whereas Mark Price might kiss rim and have it roll in, the flatter shot hammers the front or back iron and comes out

who cares that he got a concussion that has impacted 3/5 of the games he played in the finals.... but, continue to cherry pick.

I'd like more than anyone for Love to be kicking ass in the most important part of the playoffs. But he's not, unfortunately, which is something that a lot of others around here seem to be aware of as well (protip: go check out pages 463-65 of this thread). But you should continue to make excuses for him...

That is about a good of an explanation as I have ever heard and I have played the game and have watched a lot of basketball over the years. I guess the other point might be is that free-throw shooting takes a lot out of practice practice practice and the big guys might not have as much time as the smaller guys to donate to practicing free throws and remedying the problem that you discussed.

It might have something to do with how giant their hands are. Ever try to use proper form on a mini ball? It's impossible.

that argument wouldn't get very far. and people are grossly exaggerating how bad he's been in the playoffs. he's still averaging 15 and 9, shooting 42% from 3 and 86% from the line. aside from two total stinker games, he's been good in the playoffs. but knee jerk reactions is the trend here I see.
It would be a stupid trade to just dump those two, but the question is how much they're getting out of love. They're stuck with a giant contract for production way below that paygrade. Worse yet, the headband wearing GM also hamstrung them with the Thompson contract.

It's almost like being a premiere basket maker doesn't quality you to run a franchise. It does quality you to strangle it repeatedly and have them keep letting it happen because they need you.
