Cleveland Cavs (2016 NBA Champions)

I think the real "wheels falling off test" started last night where the Cavs started a very nasty schedule to end the season: 20 games in 31 days. With Gibson out for the year, and all these games, we're either going to see an implosion or maybe some guys play well down the stretch.

At this point, even if they continue to play shitty, I still think the only teams they have a legitimate chance of passing are the Pistons and the Kings. I'd gladly take the #6 pick going into the lottery drawing.

In the last 9 drafts, the number 6 team has moved into the top three 5 times.

if the wheels totally fall off as suggested, they will end up #5 at worst. if they lose tonight, detroit passes them. nj and toronto are only one win behind them, and they have some winnable games coming up, including against each other. cleveland could very well end up at #4 when it's all said and done.

we are getting there....had no answer for detroit...prince killed us...lost by 12 and had no D whatsoever...couldnt make any shots either...not that im complaining

The good thing about rookies (at least for the Cavs this season) is they usually break down at the end of the season. They just aren't used to playing every other day for the whole season. I'll feel a lot better about the draft if the Cavs can get into the top 5. They could easily go the rest of the season and only win 2-3 more games.

tank efforts pay massive dividends tonight. detroit passes cleveland. nj, toronto and sactown all have the same number of wins as cleveland. cleveland officially 2 games back of picking 4th. the way things are going, a top 5 pick looks pretty likely right now.

so now we can start getting into a real discussion of who we could possibly take with the first pick...if we have a top 5 pick, our options will include MKG, Beal and Barnes at SG, which is what i think the cavs have the need at the most...preferbly someone who has a good outside shot but can also create their own offense...irving has shown he is a proven scorer who will go 1 on 1 and create his own offense...another player somewhat similar to him would be ideal...think Monta Ellis and Stephon Curry when both were healthy and on the same team...out of those 3 i like Beal the most followed by MKG...im not a big fan of barnes at all...he has not shown me anything to get excited about...im also a fan of austin rivers who may or may not go top 10...just all depends on who comes out for the draft...another player i really like at the next level is thomas robinson, even tho we dont necessarily need another PF...but i think the cavs need to take best available at this point and worry about adding need at position later in the draft or in FA at this point

Aside from Davis, I'd prefer MKG. Problem with that is that he's most likely
going #2, so we'd need the balls to drop us into the top 2.

After 1 and 2, I really have no idea, who the Cavs would pick. Drummond, Beal, Robinson? Either way, there should still be decent value at the Lakers pick to fill another spot.

if there is one thing that is true about the NBA draft, it's that centers get overdrafted. that's why you get picks like a bird-legged euro center, jonas valenciunus, that stayed in europe this year at #5, darko at #2, thabeet at #2, ect...

as such, it's nearly impossible to fathom andre drummond not being a top 3 pick. he's physically everything you want, just underdeveloped. plus, he played on a team that was a trainwreck this year with a ball-hogging backcourt.

i'd say your top 3 is likely to be davis, mkg, drummond.

personally, beal's height isn't a big issue to me as he's a good athlete, and plays physical and crashes the boards hard. the number of 6'6'' shooting guards with an actual outside shot are dwindling. being 6'4'' isn't going to be a major concern.

the two spot and the 5 are cleveland's biggest weaknesses right now. if cleveland is going to roll with tristan thompson at the 4, they need some legit shooters in the backcourt. anthony parker's corpse isn't going to get it done.

So it sounds like we really need to hope that the Cavs hit the lottery again and get in the top 3 picks with Beal as a fall back if they don't. On the bright side they got the PG last year since this seems to be a weak year for PG's. The Cavs really need to pull one superstar out of this draft and another project that might not be ready now, but will be in a year or two. If they don't get Drummond with the first pick I would look really hard at Fab Melo with the first 2nd round pick and maybe even the Lakers pick if he shows well in the pre-draft work. Having 2 Brazilian centers can't be bad right? I'd also give Green from MSU a good look with the other 2nd rounder. I'm sure Gilbert would like to have a fellow Spartan on the team.
