Some of you may remember FL RB Gartrell Shavers from last recruiting season. He apparantly is going to Colorado State University and is qualified to play next season.

Thanks for the update skins. I was excited about Shavers when I first heard of him. Too bad about the grade issues. It is situations like this that make higher grading standards across the board seem like a good idea.

Minnesota and MSU are always grabing kids who can't get into OSU (not that we are Stanford or Duke). It will be a tough pill to swallow the day we lose to one of those schools becuase of a play made by someone like Ernie Wheelwright or Miles Williams.

Thanks for the update, Buckskin. I pretty much assumed that Shavers (aka The Predator) was off to post grad somewhere, but it's good to see that he finally made it into college.

FWIW, I wasn't particularly impressed with his videos (although Duane Long simply loved him); however, he was really high on OSU, and we need RB's, so I hope that we didn't miss out on anything....

Supposedly he was running behind a really bad line. That might be why his videos werent to impressive.

Gartrell ran very upright with a herky-jerky motion, which has nothing to do with his line; he seemed to break through the line pretty well (meaning he had holes to run through), and he led Dade County in rushing (so his line couldn't have been too bad). I'm not saying that Gartrell was a lousy prospect, just that he wasn't at the top of anyone's list (other than Duane's).

Dennis Kennedy supposedly was running behind a very poor line (according to Helpinghand, who should know) - maybe you are confusing the two?

Hmm.. I did know DK ran behind a bad line...but i could have sworn i saw a post somewhere saying Shavers did too. Could be wrong. Was his video on Rivals?

Yes, his videos are on Rivals. I just watched them again, and my opinion is pretty much the same, although I do have to admit that he runs hard (albeit awkwardly), and it sure looks cool seeing his three-foot long dreads trailing behind him.

    Anyway, here's the link....

I have been working this with him. Actually, he is flying back from there today. He has a non-binding (over 15 days) offer from them right now, but will be considering other offers.

Does anyone have a copy of the photo of Gartrell as "The Predator" (with the really long dreads)? It was posted on BN a couple of years ago. If you have it, please post. Thanks.

I was watching the Colorado vs CU game last night and the running back for CSU named Gartrell Johnson. I think it's a pretty safe assumption that this is the same guy with a different last name. He was a good looking running back although the Colorado defense isn't exactly top notch competition.

Gartrell ran for a career high 285 yards today in his final college game.

Per your request, 3 years later ...

Edit - Johnson's 375 yards combined rushing and receiving set a record for yards from scrimmage for bowl games all-time. The 285 yards rushing was second in bowl history to the 307 yards by Ga Tech's P.J. Daniels in the 2004 Humanitarian Bowl.
