Columbus Crew SC (2008, 2020, 2023 MLS Champions)

Well it’s a CONCACAF Cup win in leg 1. The away goal stinks.

Entertaining match.
Giving up the away goal really wasn’t ideal, but getting a win is massive, and Monterrey isn’t in great form currently, hopefully they can keep it up next week. Despite a brutal miss, this was one of Diego Rossi’s best games with the Crew (minus the MLS Cup playoffs), and Cucho and Russell-Rowe obviously showed up big time. Also think this was Cheberko’s best game with the Crew. The goal was unfortunate, and he thought Yeboah was going to continue to mark the far post run so he could mark the middle attacker. It is what it is. His marking, and ability to advance the ball from the back line was huge tonight.

Nancy made a nice adjustment after Monterrey equalized. He moved Zawadski up top, and shifted Rossi out wide to get him the ball in more space. Monterrey struggled to adjust with more skillful dribblers out wide and the Crew were able to generate a lot of pressure in the last 20 minutes.
