Congrats from Ark fans

I don't think anyone here would or could argue that on a better night, with more focused receivers, and with a couple more seconds here and there to throw the ball, Mallett would have pulled out a win from this mess.

Yes so true but. If's and But's were beer and nuts, oh what a party we would have!

If Ohio State did not become conservative and Arkansas hadn't played better in the second half, it would have been a route, but that is sports.

The final analysis, two quality teams played for the first time in a month. Two well coached teams with quality talent gave what they had in that moment in time. One team wins and one does not. C'est la vie.

Great game. Finally a win over a SEC team in a bowl game....needless to say:

my analysis...

a) the hurry up was smart. good scouting, arkansas needs to dial up edge pressure with corners/safeties to contain mobile QBs, i don't think our coaching staff expected OSU to run hurry up after first downs.

b) mallett, not a very good game. getting pressure with 4 is a problem, he tried to aim off balanced throws too much and wound up putting them high or in the dirt. heyward is the real deal.

c) dropped passes. too much nerves on the part of our receivers. first play should have been an arkansas TD, a junior receiver with 4.3 flat speed running untouched drops it. on the flip side OSU receivers made smart plays and great catches all night.

d) losing containment on pryor. our defense struggled with this all year, linebackers are sub par except for one that's a converted safety. then again OSU's linebackers seemed subpar as well and struggled with knile davis, which we expected. this, i think, was a wash.

e) not-very-smart plays. arkansas made three huge mistakes. losing the fumble on the goal line to two guys running into each other. losing a pick to two guys running into each other. not running in the blocked punt. OSU on the other hand didn't make many mistakes, other than those three plays which turned out in their favor or at least, not as costly. to have only one false start in such a hostile and loud environment is very good. the dome was as loud as it is for saints games (i'm a new orleans transplant, i know).

f) your replacement secondary was better than ours. we lost our #1 corner a few weeks back, OSU lost theirs in this game. the OSU backups played well, i didn't see many major breakdowns, one or two 25+ yard completions but no long TDs. arkansas' replacements for ramon broadway, not so much. they gave up two 20+ yard TDs.

bottom line, the team that made the least mistakes won, in a very even matchup.

Nice job. I agree.

So disappointed in the drops. Joe Adams has been solid all year, and to have the game he had has to be heartbreaking for him. You have to think missing that first one and playing on the big stage got in his head.

Arkansas had their chances offensively and couldn't get it done. Credit to the OSU defense on that. Heyward was unblockable. The OSU Defense tackled well.

Also credit the OSU coaches for a great offensive game plan. Their receivers made clutch catches at critical times.

It really did come down to one play at the end of the game. Any way you look at it, that's a great football game.

Cam Heyward is a fucking beast. He would have been my choice for MVP.

Classy stuff from our Hog visitors, it sure sounds like those lucky enough to be in NOLA had one whale of a time - watching from the couch this game was a keeper! And, SmoovP, yes Cam = the man and is a MVP.

First, great game and thank you for being classy about it all. I really do hope you guys continue to improve and do well in the SEC.

That said. I don't think people realize just how deep we are in the depth chart in the secondary. We lost huge play makers early on in the season. You guys were seeing third and fourth string secondary players. Every time you put that ball in the air I was terrified. Losing Chekwa was big. But I can't say enough about how proud I am of our young guys stepping up and avoiding mistakes.

This. Yes, Pryor had a great first half but Heyward single-handedly took over the game at times. Definitely his best game this season. He'll be sorely missed next year.

Congrats on a great season Razorback fans! Hopefully some of you stick around, it's nice having outsider perspectives.

Congrats on a great season Razorback fans, you fans seem like a classy, fun loving bunch. Your team is solid, and take away a few drops and obviously the game may have turned out differently. Good luck in the future.

Cam is a beast, and will be sorely missed. You saw the tOSU defense last night, try to pressure with 4, keep the ball in front of you, make them march the whole field, and don't beat yourself. To hold your STRONG offense to 26 is impressive. Not flashy, but darned effective.

I hope you folks check back to BP, to give us your perspective and humor, you've made this a better site with your input.

Every year it seems like we pick up some regulars from visiting fan bases...most of whom become great contributors here (and others we can't get rid of...ahem, Gatorubet )...hopefully some of the Arkansas fans will stick around.

well, i am happy with one of those. malcolm jenkins will be a pro bowl player on sundays for my saints, i think, given another year or two. i expect them to let darren sharper go after this season, jenkins is ready to play every down at safety for the saints, he showed that this year.

keep bringing them up, the saints can keep drafting them

*sigh*

My optimism collapsed when Joe dropped the the wide open pass on the first play. I became increasingly upset at Joe for his continued "woofing" after making an average play when he had TWO critical drops in this game. Shut up Joe. Get back to the huddle and get some of that stuff from those Bud Light commercials on your hands. Jeez.

I think the Hogs watched too many bowl games and believed the hype coming into the game. We looked like we expected to just show up and beat tOSU like the other SEC-W schools beat their opponents. tOSU proved they are the best team in the Big 10 while we proved that we aren't quite there yet (you have idea how hard it is to type that).

I am proud of my Hogs for not folding after the first half. Many teams would have but we didn't.

This was an evenly matched game and, so far, the best bowl game of this season. It is a bitter pill to swallow because I feel like we could have (should have) made some plays that we normally make but just didn't. That's not an excuse, I promise. The reason it's not an excuse is because you can beat most teams when you have miscues but you can't be quality teams and tOSU is a quality team. tOSU made plays, made fewer mistakes, and played hard for four quarters. They won.

I take solace in the fact that Alabama lost a heart breaker to Utah (in the Sugar Bowl I think) the year before they won it all. Hopefully, our Hogs will experience a similar turnaround.

Big #91 for the Saints isn't bad either. :osu:

not bad at all.

I thought the momentum swung after that safety(which was a disturbingly bad call) but honestly, the right team won.

Good job buckeyes, i'll blame this loss on the birds.

there were disturbingly bad calls both ways. the call on DJ's great TD in the first half was equally silly, as was the play where OSU seemed to assume that a review was coming, pryor left the center without the ball, and no false start was called. i think we would all probably agree that the notion of having part-time referees in D1 college football games is the biggest farce in the world.

easy fix: get rid of all of these good ole boy bowl commissioners/presidents and pay the NFL their salaries to loan us NFL refs for the bowl games. i'm sure that'll happen about the time that pigs fly.
