Oden's impact big, probably brief

April 8, 2007

The Oden finally cometh.

Whether Greg Oden cometh out remains to be seen, but if his monster NCAA championship game was his last for Ohio State, at least he got to show what he could do.

Oden has until April 29 to decide, but even in Ohio, it's assumed he's gone.

Teammate Mike Conley Jr. recently told the Indianapolis Star, "It will be very hard when Greg's not here next year," before changing it to, "if he's not here next year."

Cont...

This article is not positive. Conley saying it will be tough when he is gone then retracting. It addition, ?Mike Sr., who will represent Oden, opening an agency.?

With all that said, I am still pulling for Golferdow01?s source. :)

Hoopsfan has been quite consistent in his reports that Oden has not decided. He uttered the same sentiment when writers were claiming NBA scout angles, or dissecting the conley quote (when it came out over a week ago). It has been repackaged multiple times, but there are too many people saying he's either undecided or leaning towards returning to worry about that supposed slip by Mike.

He is representing McRoberts, who just declared. Conley Sr coached McBob in AAU ball, along with Oden, etc.

I admit, at first I was hoping Oden would leave so my Celtics had a chance to land him and I would have a reason to watch NBA hoops again and I could sport a sweet green Oden jersey. This is despite be being a much bigger Buckeye fan than a C's fan. But, I figured 1 extra year of enjoying his as a buckeye vs. a career of enjoying him as a C.

I know, selfish, I am a jerk!

After all the excitement surrounding Buckeye hoops this year, I've changed my tune. It has been so much fun watching the Buckeyes this year, I can't help hope he comes back one more year. I want this team to win a championship and I want to see what an Oden/Kuoufos inside/outside game would look like!

Of course, I am all about the student doing what is best for him and support him regardless of his decision. But now I am pulling for the Buckeye side of the coin.

The Official Unofficial word is ..

decision made perhaps as early as next week.

Following a meeting in Indianapolis involving Cook, Conley and Oden.

The three Ohio State freshmen basketball players who are considering an early jump to the NBA will meet Sunday to begin weighing their options. Their decisions could come as soon as next week, according to the father of one of them.

“That's just me talking,” Mike Conley Sr., father of point guard Mike Conley Jr. and the players' prospective agent, said today, “but in my estimation, I think (they will decide) sometime next week.
“Regardless of what they decide to do, they need to prepare for what they decide to do.”
The meeting will be in Indianapolis, where Conley Sr. lives and his son and Oden played at Lawrence North High School.

Not saying he's making it up at all just saying he's trying to trump a guy whose nephew was greg's best friend and is still close to the family.

When did I ever try and trump hoopsfan? I simply stated what I was told, and respected what he said. Good lord you have way too much free time on your hands if this is how you spend your day! Have I ever cried wolf before when it comes to recruiting?

Then you must not know how to read.

What part about "announce tomorrow" don't you understand?

Seriously Thump, you state that someone must not know how to read and yet you put in quotes "announce tomorrow" yet fail to put the word that preceded it, "could", there as well?!?

Jesus, Thump, go take a Midol. Golfer said he COULD announce "tomorrow." Who has the reading comprehension problem?

I personally don't care when he announces. The part that I care about is whether he's returning or not. That's the part of Golfer's message that carries the most weight for me.
