Dad takes out bear with firewood

So when the Everharts heard some rustling near their cooler they jumped to their feet. The dad picked up some pots and pans to bang. Everhart's most adventurous boy, Logan, 6, grabbed a large shovel and charged at the animal.

"He was like a knight with a spear," said Jake.
Sounds like another would-be instance of natural selection has been thwarted by the human race. That kid is going to grow up to be an assistant manager at Hot Topic. When did "adventurous" become a euphemism for "stupid"?

Campers nearby ran to the scene. Department of Natural Resources officials came soon after.

Investigators had come to the campgrounds to arrest another man who tried to run down a bear with his car. Officials said he was charged with a DUI.

The investigators told Chris Everhart that his bear was dead and carted it away. Everhart and other campers had reported seeing a bear and three cubs in the area.

Everhart was later issued a $75 ticket by the U.S. Forest Service for failing to store his food properly "to prevent access by wildlife."
So it turns out that this jackass was pretty much asking for bears to come around. The bear was just trying to eat, and got killed for it because that guy was a dumbass.

Bobcat Strangler > Bear accidental death

WESLEY CHAPEL, Fla. - Dale Rippy says he was acting on instinct when a rabid 25-pound bobcat attacked him on his porch in this central Florida suburb.Rippy, 62, endured the bobcat?s slashes and bites until it clawed into a position where he could grab it by the throat.
Then he strangled it.

With picture goodness!

(from video) I just waited until he got a good bite into me and then I grabbed his neck and choked him...

I just want people to know they should enjoy their backyard with caution.

It would take some serious presence of mind to wait for the cat to 'get a good bite' into you before taking some action.

The log to the bear noggin was more luck. The guy that choked the life out of a bobcat deserves some recognition.

So, who's next?

Do a search on Sigurdur Petursson.

The skipper of the trawler "Erik the Red" was on a beach in Kuummiit, east Greenland, watching his crew processing a catch when he saw the shark swimming towards the fish blood and guts - and his men.
Captain Sigurdur Petursson, known to locals as "the Iceman", ran into the shallow water and grabbed the shark by its tail. He dragged it off to dry land and killed it with his knife.

I don't know. That takes some big brassballs and some fairly seroius strength to pull the thing out of the water. But, sharks don't have much backward bending maneuverability either. Once he got the thing by the tail, he was pretty damn safe really. The brain isn't very well protected from an attack from above. If the thing was in shallow water it had already sort of screwed itself by not only making itself an easier target but also by reducing its own capabilities for fast swimming.
