I think this would be very nice especially for recruiting as mentioned in the article plus he has HC experience although somewhat limited.
Hoops & Scoops: an OSU basketball blogMatta zeroing in on new assistant
Dave Dickerson, a former Tulane head coach and Maryland assistant, apparently is at the top of Thad Matta's list of candidates to replace departed assistant Alan Major, according to sources. Major was hired as head coach by Charlotte on Friday.
Dickerson, 43, resigned as head coach at Tulane on March 31 after five difficult seasons in the wake of Hurricane Katrina. The Green Wave was 68-84 record, including 31-47 in Conference USA, and failed to reach a postseason tournament. Tulane was 8-22 last season.
Before going to Tulane, Dickerson was an assistant to Gary Williams at Maryland for nine seasons and was credited for recruiting some of the players that led the Terrapins to the 2002 NCAA championship, including Juan Dixon, Chris Wilcox, Lonny Baxter and Steve Blake.
Maryland was 212-88 in Dickerson's nine seasons as an assistant and reached the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament five times and Final Four twice.
Adding Dickerson conceivably would strengthen Ohio State's recruiting presence along the East Coast and in the South.
Matta could announce a hiring as soon as Monday. The mandatory posting for the job vacancy expires Sunday.
