Not crazy at all. After I just posted my previous statement I looked through this page and read this comment. Obviously, I agree 100%.

Well, maybe it's just me, but C Bryant jumped out at me on Saturday.
Reminded me of the first time I saw Doss on the field. There's something different about him. Plays with, I don't know, savagery.
Monday, September 27th after the EMU game.

You can usually just judge a young kid by the "it" factor. This kid seems to have "it". Reminds me of how I felt about how Mike Doss played when he was a freshman. Great players always seem to find their way around the ball, and be involved in a lot of plays. I could be wrong, but I think Bryant could be a HUGE contributor to this defense in the 2nd half of the season.

Bryant Steps into Spotlight
By Brandon Castel

Christian Bryant made it clear during his recruitment that he wanted to play right away during his career at Ohio State.

The sun also rose today.

Like most young players who starred in high school, Bryant came to Columbus with high expectations for himself. They were also ostensibly unrealistic. He is a true freshman on one of the top defenses in the entire country, one that isn?t starting a single player in his first or second year in the program.

And yet there he was Saturday, in the middle of a tightly-contested Big Ten opener, on the road, playing starters minutes for defensive coordinator Jim Heacock.

?When Christian came in, it's kind of crazy when you have a little freshman in there, but he settled down, did his job, and he made big plays for us,? senior captain Cam Heyward said.

?When you have a guy that is able to step in right away, it's only going to help our team.?

Bryant finished with five solo tackles after being forced into his first real action for the Buckeyes when starter Tyler Moeller went down with an injury on the first defensive series of the game.

?You have to have a guy ready to go and Christian has stepped up and really played well for us but any time you lose a guy like Tyler, you lose a pretty good football player,? Heacock said.

?It definitely affected us, so somebody had to step up.?

OSU notebook: Buckeyes pull out new nickel
Freshman makes good impression replacing Moeller

By Tim May
THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

Ohio State freshman Christian Bryant overcame a baptism of fire last week when he replaced Tyler Moeller at nickel back against Illinois. But this week, with Moeller out for the season, he faces a much bigger challenge against Indiana.

The Hoosiers, led by quarterback Ben Chappell, probably will pass twice as much as they run the ball. In a loss last week to Michigan, they attempted 64 passes. Bryant probably will start, as the Buckeyes will use five defensive backs most of the game.

Senior linebacker Ross Homan said Bryant is up to the challenge.

"Christian Bryant stepped up big time last week, (and he's) only a freshman," Homan said. "He came out this week in practice determined to get better, to help us out."

Defensive backs coach Paul Haynes has seen the same out of Bryant.

"Just because he's new, we (still) expect him to go in there and do what we ask him to do, make plays and do all those things," Haynes said. "And he did that last week. So he'll be all right."

Helping Bryant make the leap from watching to playing is free safety Jermale Hines, a former nickel back.

"(Hines) is a coach on the field, and he did a great job last week (helping Bryant), especially in having played that position," Haynes said. "He gets him lined up, tells him exactly where to go, what's about to happen and things like that."

Homan liked Bryant's energy on the field.

"During the game I noticed he's a competitor," Homan said. "He was out there not playing like a freshman. Freshmen are kind of quiet - he's out there communicating."

The main thing Bryant brings similar to the game played by Moeller is "he wants to hit someone, make plays," Homan said. "When you see something like that in a freshman, you feel comfortable playing with them."

Buckeyes freshman Christian Bryant keeps his cool, helps OSU shut down Indiana
Published: Saturday, October 09, 2010
Jodie Valade, The Plain Dealer

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Before every game, Christian Bryant's face wears the same steady expression, his energy is at the same constant output. He doesn't show nerves or excitement, even when he's a true freshman earning his first start in front of 105,291 people at Ohio Stadium, as he did Saturday.

But a mother knows the truth, no matter how well a son can mask reality.

"Christian is real level-headed," said his mother, Tonya Ellis, after Ohio State trounced Indiana 38-10. "He tries not to show his emotions, but he told me he was hyped about this game. I could tell he was hyped."

CB fighting some kind of infection....Unknown if this affects his status for Purdue...
JT said on his presser that he will miss the game and will be in the hospital until Friday.

Also, I stated the other day he was banged up because I had heard he was in the hospital, didn't expect it to be from an infection though. Interesting. I hope he recovers from whatever he has and gets back to this team rather quickly. Being in the hospital has to suck with school work too. I can't imagine missing an entire week in the middle of the quarter.
