DB Corey "Pittsburgh" Brown (DB Coach Slippery Rock Univ.)

How are we deep? On what basis? Practice reports? Recruiting offers/stars? Talent? Those thing meant that the WR corps had potential, but it never realized it, leaving them with anything but a deep WR corps.

Ray Small could have been a big asset as a #3/4 WR. Instead he was nothing more than a returner.

Washington seemed poised to finally translate his practice success to the field, but instead he struggled.

Carter showed a ton of potential but had his growing pains.

That left OSU with two WRs, one of which is a fine possession WR but can't carry the WR corps. Not until Posey matured did OSU have a more effective passing game.

I have to respectfully disagree, I think the effectivness of tOSU passing game had more to do with Pryor's maturation than Posey's.

No, we didn't have an effective passing game until our offense started running more passing plays! From the Purdue game until the scUM game we primarily ran the option, and occasionally passed the ball. Your WRs can't be effective if the offense is constantly running the ball. Our leading WR, Posey had 60 catches, which is mediocre, after that Sanz had 36, and Saine had 17! You can't tell me that's an effective passing game, when your 2nd WR has under 40 catches. There wasn't much balance until the Rose Bowl.
I guess deep would be a wrong word to use, in this case if no one is proven yet, but we have young talent. And there's more optimism in this group than the past year.

I think the same could be said of DB's...Clarke, Barnett, Howard, Domicone, O. Johnson, Wood (now Bryant and Roby)...Jackson, Fields, Carter (now Tyrone Williams, Corey Brown of '10, Louis) at WR. I would say there is a ton of promise at both and there is a long way to go to see if we are "deep" at either. I'm sure the coaches have a better handle on the situation than I do...I thought Brown would be a star regardless of WR or DB, though I do admit I liked him a bit better at safety. Plus, as jwins said, I'll believe we have a vast group of talent when it happens. I was one who always was a tad too giddy over the "talent" we had until it was proven.

Can Brown push Ohrian next year as S?

That's pretty funny. Definitely locker-room talk. Somehow I don't think the press will pick up on that much one as much as "Philly" Brown.

What, you mean we won't see a thread change coming on this one?
Probably not, but like Zander said it's pretty funny, imo. Agreed that it's "locker-room" talk but funny for the guys, I assume.

Hmm. Thought Corey "Pittsburgh" Brown's nickname might become Corey "Thomas English Muffin" Brown today. Because, you know, he was toasted so often. But what a great experience for the young man - he'll learn from his mistakes and become a terrific corner, I believe.

Already saw some good things from Corey, even though he was burned so often (by, it must be said, a pretty accurate QB who picked on him unmercifully); he knows when to look up for the ball, something our other CBs don't always do. And he seems to be as physical and sound a tackler as our other corners. Great to have both Corey Browns wearing scarlet & gray today!
