OSU football lands one of top 3 Ohio recruits

Colerain safety Clifford verbally commits; the 6-foot-2 playmaker runs the 40 in 4.45 seconds.

Ohio State has received a verbal commitment from a player considered among the top three prospects in the state while strengthening its foothold in one of the nation's high school football hotbeds.
Cincinnati Colerain senior Eugene Clifford, a 6-foot-2, 190-pound safety, becomes the Buckeyes' ninth recruit in a class that is expected to approach 20 players. He reportedly turned down offers from Michigan, Notre Dame, Florida State and Tennessee.
"He's a huge, huge commitment," said Bill Kurelic, publisher of Ohio Football Recruiting News. "He's also playing wide receiver as a senior, and he could be a great wide receiver in college. But I think he's too valuable as a safety."
Clifford had a whopping 147 tackles and six interceptions last season and has been timed in the 40-yard dash at 4.45 seconds.
Only Piqua running back Brandon Saine and Cincinnati La Salle defensive end Ben Martin are rated as highly as Clifford in Ohio. Saine already has committed to the Buckeyes, while Martin reportedly has narrowed his choices to OSU and Notre Dame.
Clifford is the Buckeyes' fourth recruit from the Queen City in the past three years. They landed Colerain linebacker Tyler Moeller and offensive lineman Connor Smith in the 2006 class and St. Xavier quarterback Robbie Schoenhoft in '05.
"There was a number of years there before (Jim) Tressel took over where Ohio State did not recruit very well in Cincinnati at all," Kurelic said. "Since Tressel became coach, they haven't gotten every single one they've offered, but they've gotten most of them."

A great Job ! Especially since i understand that the Colerain coach tried to steer all his players to tsun.
:oh:

Your understanding is incorrect and as misguided as misguided can be.

The last two Colerain players that went to tsun were not even OSU offers!
Kerry Coombs steers his kids to college. He has sent more players to OSU in 13 years at Colerain (4) than he has sent to tsun (3)...in 13 years he has sent more players to Cincinnati (7) than any place else. He has sent countless kids to the MAC and just about every senior that has asked for his help to get a scholarship at some level has usually gotten it. Kerry works hard for his kids, not for tsun.

IMHO, Wright should be in with that group...at least in the top 10. I have watched some film on him and he just looks the part on the field of one of those tough, play-making Miami safetys like Sean Taylor, Kenny Phillips and Brandon Meriweather. I think Torrence ends up on the other side of the ball, which would leave Wright and Clifford as a heck of an impact class at safety, should Major end up in Columbus.
