DB Jamario O'Neal (official thread)

As a gunner. Not sure he's proven he can play at the same level as the other 3 safeties, when Malcolm slides back.

I agree with jwins. He's not quite good enough in pass coverage, and has taken some bad pursuit angles on defense, but for some reason it just all seems to click for him on special teams. Maybe because on special teams you just get to run and destroy whereas on defense you have to read, diagnose, and react.

which is why I don't know why the coaches don't find a role for him on defense. Bring him in the nickle as the nickle man and either A) Blitz him B) Blitz him C) Blitz him or D)let him sit in a flat and just watch a swing pass.

I mean i know he struggles in coverage but he does hit and tackle pretty well. With his speed and measures the coaches have got to find a way to get him to just play instead of reacting. Like I mentioned a few sentences ago I think blitzing him, or giving him a simple assignment would be best. I'd like to see him on the field more. (given that its in the role that I stated, and not in pass coverage)

If we were going to bring someone in for the sole purpose of blitzing it would be Thad Gibson. Anyway, why complain? I think our D is doing just fine.

lol oh I'm not complaining... I'm fine with Jamo in his current role (special teams player) but I'd like to see him off the corner blitzing is all.

When we blitz Gibson he's usually taking on Offensive Tackles and at 230 pounds that can be a problem for Gibson from time to time. However when you have a 210 pound kid who runs a 4.4 ranged 40 yard dash and he's coming unimpeded off the corner on a disguised blitz I mean thats something I'd like to see from time to time.

The above mentiones post was a great article, it speaks to how nice of a kid Coleman is....but someone needs to write an article about him as a lackluster Stong Saftey!!! He missed more tackles in run support this year than Will Allen and Whitner ever did. The Bucks need a more physical SS (Jamario Oneal played hard when he was given a chance). Coleman is a Free Safety. Coach make the change. Go BUCKS!!!:osu:

Coleman is a great athlete , he's at his best when the ball is in the air. Maybe move Coleman over to FS and let O'neal and Gant battle for the SS safety position.:osu:

Russell is a good FS , Coleman could be a GREAT FS. This would allow the Bucks to get the best players on the field:oh::io:

Jamario could help out our run support from the SS spot. Coleman's a great player but he's too light in the pants to play SS. Maybe a switch to FS, let him and Russel battle for the position.:osu:

I agree, they are the best two Free Safety's we have.

I hope Jamario plays more this year, we need better run support from our SS. :oh::io:

Uh, yeah. We get it. You think O'neal would make a better SS than Coleman.

Coleman does pretty well in run support...

Just my opinion, but after rewatching some of the bigger games we played last season, it jumped out to me that Coleman missed alot of tackles in run support... i was suprised cause i didnt remember it when i saw the game live, but if u watch the games over and focus on who is doing what, Coleman struggled alot at time tackling in the open field

I think coleman is more of a fs than a ss. I'd like to see him moved and put russel at ss and have jamario play in the nickel packages. I think russel is better when it comes to making a tackle and coleman is better in coverage. He did use to play cb. But i defiently agree i want to see jamario play a key role in some capacity on defense this year.:oh::io:

Coleman has room to improve, but not nearly as much as Jamario. JamO has remarkable potential, but also needs to show a lot more consistency out there before unseating Coleman.

I have talked to Jam-o a few times this year and i am really hoping he puts everything together. He is a great kid and is very polite, he works hard, and has all the athletic ability in the world. He just needs to put that mental part of the game together this year, and when he does we have ourselves a hell of a football player.
