DC/LB Coach Jim Knowles (Official Thread)

Maybe this is better positioned for the guy who’s literally related to the kid we lost and also happens to coach the position he plays.

i honestly do not understand the Knowles hate here.. dude has been here one season and our defense improved from what it was before. he didnt transform it into the silver bullets but im not sure there is a coach out there that could have performed that miracle in their first season.
It's mostly Jax and it's 90% from the loss to TSUN.

I mean, that defensive gameplan against TSUN was an absolute disgrace. That combined with his terrible approach to the 4th Quarter of the Georgia game should not be forgotten anytime soon. Inexcusable shit.

The game plan against UM was fine. The execution was the problem.

Before the game, EVERYBODY said the best chance to win is to stop the run game and make McCarthy beat you. Missed tackles, bad angles, and poor man-to-man coverage are all on the players.

Are people forgetting before the first missed tackle they had like 30 yards of of total offense? Not only that but like 70% of their offense was on like 5 to 7 plays or something insane like that

They ran for around 90 yards on 33 attempts, outside of those 2 long runs. Better DB play in that game and it’s a different story.

I mean we were up by two scores in the 4th with basically a natty on the line. And somehow we run a defense that puts a safety on an island with one of their best recievers, resulting in a 1 play 73yd td drive. I mean WTF.

Offense put up massive numbers against the supposed best defense in football... he didn't pull his weight.

Nattys are fucking rare and I do feel like he gave one away with that absurd call.

Hopefully after the last 2 games he has tweaked his play calling. I am trying to not harp on it much, and he does have my support this year, it was just so deflating to see all those 50 yd+ plays.

I get the frustration with Knowles and the D performance for the last two games of the season. At what point does Coach Day take some heat for scoring 3 fucking point in the second half against SCUM and 3 4th Q points against UGA ?? Or the fact that the O needs to get maybe 10 yards to make the field goal attempt at the end of the game doable and we get 1-2 yards on three attempts. Both sides of the ball shit the bed when it mattered the most ....

Day has gotten plenty of heat. Not sure what you're talking about there

That is about where I am at. Really most of the year Knowles was a huge improvement and everyone loved him. The in the ttun game, what I saw was mostly a lack of execution by the players (and Knowles still accepted the blame and said the buck stops with him). BUT...the second half of the UGA game and really the 4th quarter is where I get mad on being too aggressive with a sizeable lead.

That play you mentioned was the difference in winning or losing, in addition to not getting 10 yards to make the FG makeable for Ruggles. If we make them get that score in chunks over the course of at least 3-4 minutes, I am about positive we win the game. I feel for Ransom because he had a great season overall and got put in a bad position there. As you said, a Natty is a hard thing to win and I feel like that was our year to do it (not saying we won't be a contender this year, but I think our odds were better last year with Stroud and our bookend OTs).

Not going to harp on it either though, Knowles has my support and its the second year of his system. The DL is stacked, so is LB and we have veteran leadership there, and I do think the secondary will be improved. On the secondary, I think Burke has a bounce back year, Hancock steps up to play to his billing as a recruit, Davison is a huge add from Ole Miss, Styles sounds like a monster at safety, and I still believe in Ransom as a top-notch safety that had some mishaps late in the season.

You never know until you hit the field, but I think we will be in a much better position defensively. We need to be anyways, the offense is likely to have some early hiccups with essentially a new OL and a new QB.

Yep poor Ransom was put in a situation he shouldn't have been time and time and time AGIAN. At somrpoint how can it be his fault.

Look if a coach asks a top tier college athlete if he's " Got this" he better say "Fuck yes coach I would never let the team down."

At somepoint the coach has to relize he doesn't have it and stop putting him in that position.
