1) player needs money
2) player borrows money from a family friend (beats taking out a loan at a bank, even if the bank would lend the player without any collateral the money)
3) player fully pays back the money to the lender as agreed to and/or in a timely manner, etc.

What is the NCAA rule violation here where a student isn't permitted to borrow money?

#2 bank wont but loan sharks .. i mean payday loans.. would be ok...

I assumed they watched from his apartment in Cbus but could be wrong.

You are probably right. They could have drove here to support him and provide information in the "NCAA investigation", etc.

(If that's correct) I hope they did drive and he didn't borrow more money to fly them from Hyattsville, MD to Columbus, OH......:lol:

The Toledo Blade?

If I'm not mistaken Rowland used to write for 11W. He's a scUM beat guy for the Blade now, I think. In any case, he presumably has journalistic standards.

Edit: hes the ohio state beat guy. Maybe his 11W pals were fuckin with him calling him the scUM writer (I think I got that from a skull session article a couple years ago, maybe)
