DE Chase Young (Nagurski, Hendricks, Bednarik, Silver Football, NFL DROY, New Orleans Saints)

that's interesting that someone from OSU is one of the 5 members on the committee. Should give OSU some really good insite on what the committee is looking for to expedite the case/decision. Another case of being recused in the actual decision-making process though. Chase's fate is in the hands of 4 committee members.

Not to nit pick, but to clarify one point. Young has not been suspended by the NCAA or OSU - even for one game.

Once a potential violation was discovered OSU held him out of Saturday's game because to knowingly play a player who did commit a violation puts that game's results at risk. Semantics perhaps, but I don't consider that a "suspension" which would imply a confirmed violation of some kind of rule. At this point it is just a precaution.

What I hope, and largely expect, is that this week the NCAA will come back and say "nothing to see here", finding that no violation did occur. In that case he could have played against Maryland without any problem. From all that I understand of the situation if the person who loaned the money is not an agent or booster that is what should happen.

Of course, we don't know all the facts. We do know that he met this person after OSU started recruiting him, which can be a problem. If it is an agent of booster we go from there.

One question I had was this... He said he's known the person since "the summer before his freshman year at OSU" if I understood it correctly. Wouldn't he have already signed his LOI, kind of taking a recruiting issue out of the picture?

They wouldn't have held him out if it was a traditional "family friend".

Well sure....but two things. Programs don't just pay kids to sign. They let them know if they sign, they'll be taken care of the whole time they're at the program.

Also, if you're an agent, and you can glom onto these kids before they're even in school...you're setting yourself up for potentially signing them when they go to the NFL. I'm sure this goes on all over the place.....and it makes more sense, if you're going to do it that early, to try and get in the ear of the top 10ish players in the country. Chase was #7.

Depends on how you read that.

Semantics again, but his freshman year started in the fall of 2017. The summer of 2017 could be "the summer of his Freshman year", making the summer of 2016 as the summer before that. (Is next Wednesday tomorrow or a week from tomorrow?)

In either case I don't know if NCAA views the end of recruiting as signing an LOI versus enrolling.
