DE Eddrick Houston (Official Thread)

Oh my...

Head over heels for this class if Houston and Baker come on board!
Same here, we sign two of the top (if not THE top at their respective positions) prospects at the biggest positions of need. We'll see how the dust settles on Houston and Baker, but if we get those two then we are starting to get into gravy territory on this class (assuming we land a solid safety).

Whenever a class reaches the biscuits and gravy stage you know that all is good.

Seems like we said this last year regarding some top D Lineman…

”we can land them all!!”

I’ll temper my expectations for now

I get that, really if we can get two of Houston/Stewart/Lightfoot that would be tremendous. Last year most of the top guys at DE I thought we were less than 50% likely to land even with the optimism after recent visits. Right now I would say I expect two of the three aforementioned guys to commit in the next month or less. The only silver lining to how we closed the DE recruiting last year is that we may do well with this class given the opportunity to play earlier.

exactly. not being a dck but im not getting my hopes up on any recruit going forward.

'crootin......
I believe a big caveat from optimism last year would be “if NIL didn’t exist, we could land them all”

Now the optimism would be more to the tune of “Ohio State has gotten its NIL act together, and in addition to having every other advantage, can also put an NIL offer on the board that might not be as large as some places (that are probably lying anyway), but combined with all of the other Ohio State advantages, make it competitive with anyone”

Also, to be clear, most credible sources still say Ohio State isn’t in the up-front NIL money game, but are presumably putting numbers on the table based on a projected plan over the course of their time at Ohio State, which probably includes some up front money, but nowhere near the likes of what the Miami and Oregons of the world are throwing out there , however, when Ohio State can throw out whatever large number someone like Tuimoloau is pulling down in year three, that’s where they compete strongest

Oh, I DEFINITELY agree with your sentiments. But I would provide you a caveat that makes the 2 recruiting cycles quite different: NIL.
Last year, OSU was very cautious with how they went about NIL. UGA, Bama and any southern teams threw caution to the wind and spent wildly while OSU stood back. It seems like the 2024 cycle,OSU has stepped up their game and is keeping up with every program in the country. This is what the SEC teams worried about, and most of CFB.

Funny that you posted this and I hadn’t seen it yet:lol:

And you made a great point that I haven’t seen mentioned anywhere. A kid deciding whether to get an up front paycheck Vs decent money up front and his amount increasing each year until he has quite the earning potential in year 3 and after as long as he produces.

Yeah I was waiting for the NIL comment which is true. But still…we never get them all.
