DE Keith Wells (Columbus State; transfer to Ohio Dominican)

I think the kid would be most effective ~255. I really don't think he has the ability to get "Vern" big, but is a little bit taller, so I could see him getting there.

The staff asked Mobley to show up at 255 and less than 10% body fat....I could see them asking Keith to try and do the same thing.

Again...I think Wells has as high a ceiling as anyone in this class...maybe not Adams and Pryor....but pretty darn close....think Jason Taylor of the Akron Zips and now the Miami Dolphins

EDIT: crazybuckfan40...not hating on your opinion...just stating mine

I believe it was stated earlier in this thread that he already is at 270.

The thing is with his frame vs Mobley's frame you are seeing an extra 3 or 4 inches for Wells...It will be nothing for him to get to 270 and it won't be fat...Look at guys like Derrick Harvey, Javis Moss, the big tall DE that are around 270...

I don't think that Wells has much body fat at the moment as he is very ripped, and once he hits the college weight program he will just gain muscle in his lower body to go along with his upper body and will be 270 easily...I am not saying I want to see him get too big to not be as effective coming off the edge, just that is how big I see him getting and still being effective...

I realize that there is a height difference, but I also know Mobley is simply a thicker kid than Wells.

If you look at Wells before his junior year, he was a lot slimmer than he is now....he was 205 then and is now 225...after a complete overhaul of his workout routines.

I guess the point I am trying to make is the fact that he looks extremely different than he did then and that was only 20 lbs ago. But you are talking about him adding another 45 lbs of muscle to get to 270 ( that is more than 2x the amount of weight he has gained in about two years)..........

That is not "nothing", that will take hard work...but I definitely think he is the type of kid that can do it:biggrin:

EDIT: crazybuckfan40: I am also realizing how small a difference between my "255" and your "260-270" is...lol

I'll have very few here that will agree, but I think the draw with Keith isn't the player he is now. He's pretty sloppy, really. It's the player he can be (potential). He's athletic, or he wouldn't be making those plays. But it takes some time to get the footwork and football IQ in order to translate to the field. Remember, this is a guy who just started playing not very long- so he's doing well accordingly. Those of you that think he's a stud now are going to be happy with his collegiate progress.

he will be redshirted and will have to put weight on

Could be, but from the looks of those guns he was sportin' in that video, methinks he already has. I'll take his upside numbers against RJ Washington, 6-3/245 perRivals, (whom I believe BigMike torched, and is still rated by them at #13 overall), anyday. Keith Wells is way-underrated in my, way-overrated-by-me, opinion.

if they want him to play DE...he is listed at 220....he needs at least to play at 240...he is long and rangy....but needs a little weight...as for heyward...he came in at 6'6 270 plus...big difference than 6'4 220...wells is going to be a good one too

I agree for the most part, but the effectiveness of the spread is changing some dynamics of defense. Speed, for DE position, is priority, not just is in pass rush, but in containment/turning play in.

IMO, 3-4, at least in college, is the way of future and combat to the spread. Slightly, lighter and faster for key outside positions is essential for me. I see both Williams and Wells as potential outside LB's in that scheme. Thats why I like Rowell as the plug in th middle and GG and Cam as big outside down lineman pass rushers, as an example. Just a thought.

Uh, Cam weighed 275 lbs or so when he got here and he's not the norm.

He was around 260 less than a year and a half ago when his thread was started, but didn't look it (much like Wells doesn't look as heavy as he may be). Point is that Wells has the frame to put on significant solid weight...more weight than many here apparently think.
