DE Mike Vrabel (All B1G, All American, Pro Bowl, All Pro, Super Bowl Champion)

I'm saying he hasn't earned it.
And I'm saying you have to give the man a fair chance to earn it, not just hire him on for five months and then say, "Well, our LBs haven't developed as much as'd liked under your watch, so buh-bye".

And despite all of your rage, you still haven't provided anything to show his worth as a coachWhat has he done? Give me something Mili.
Uh, I don't recall YELLING IN ALL KAPZ11!!!11!! in this thread. Keep deflecting the subject...

As for proving his worth, yet again I'll say it...you have to give any individual in such a position a fair amount of time.

No one is more disappointed in our LB play this season than I am. I also expected Vrabel to maybe have more of a positive impact on the LB development as a unit. However, I am also common-sense-smart enough to know that I can't automatically lay all, or even most, of the blame on Vrabel. Maybe Sweat played better last year with Rolle covering more ground than he is this year with Sabino out there. Maybe Klein just isn't what we expected. Maybe Sabino will never have the light switch on fully. There are just too many dynamics involved to make one concrete claim that "Our LB corps hasn't developed so it's Vrabel's fault".

I see Vrabel's situation as nearly identical to Fickell's. A Buckeye fan-favorite in terms of name recognition but basically no experience at the position they were filling. Also very young. Ultimately, I will trust Meyer's judgment as he always has a killer staff of assistants. However, I would prefer to see him stay. Retiring from the NFL to coach a depleted LB unit last minute with no prior coaching experience is hardly an audition.

There it is! Trust the coaches. Err ... Trust the Coach-to-be.

Apree 100%, it's Meyer's call. TRUST THE COACHES!

Vrabel has been a college coach for all of 5 months, not enough time to make any real assessment (as outsiders/fans) of his ability or potential. I don't know what Urban Meyer might think of his qualifications when putting together a coaching staff, but I believe he's smart enough to give Vrabel's playing experience and name-recognition the appropriate consideration.

Mili is correct that 5 months isn't giving MV a fair chance in evaluating and earning the position. Jwins is correct also in saying that OSU isn't the place to learn on the job....learn it elsewhere in order to earn it at OSU.

I have nothing invested (emotional or otherwise) in whether or not MV is kept. The decision is obviously up to the new regime and whatever decision is made I will support 100%. Yes, I do trust the incoming HC to pick his staff, the staff that he wants to help him lead OSU.

Regardless of whether Vrabel has coached 5 months or 5 years is completely irrelevant when a new coach takes over. The new coach is being hired to ensure one thing...winning. He is going to hire the guys that he is comfortable with and will ensure that his vision of the program is instituted.

If you read what Brandon Castel has reported over on The Ozone, Meyer is intending on hiring a veteran coaching staff that already knows what is doing. Vrabel does not fit that description. If he wasn't who he is I don't think anyone would take any issues with him not being retained by the new coach...whomever it ends up being.

This.

The question with Vrabel is not whose fault is the lackluster play of our LBs. The question is did he show something that would make an Urban Meyer say "Wow, I gotta keep this guy."

That didn't happen and I am good with replacing Vrabel for the very same reason I am good with replacing Fick.

Meyer is coming here to win football games, not develop coaches. Let other programs do that for us. That is what it means to be Ohio State.

Normally I don't like Twitter for info but the fact is that Najee Murray tweeted that Coach Vrabel was in to see him on Thursday. And Vrabel was also at the state championships this weekend with Coach Johnson decked out in OSU gear.

Sure seems like he might be remaining on the staff...

Props to Mike. Bowl ban does not bother him. I would assume with this announcement that Luke will not be going to Pittsburgh. Just guessing on that one but I think Mike would have gone with Luke.

Probably wrong thread but: Interesting though that Withers was named Assistant HC/Co-DC. Wasn't that Luke's title?
