Derrick "LLL" Green (RB ttun transfer to TCU)

Analysis:

Runs out of the pistol and spread in HS. Shows a lot of patience. Follows his blocks real well. A one cut runner, much like Carlos Hyde. Powerful back who can drag defenders, but would expect him to break more tackles against HS defenses. Doesn't have break away speed.

I still don't understand why OState walked away from this recruitment. Given the success Carlos Hyde had in the offense last year and Green's 4.37 speed, it just doesn't make a whole lot of sense. It will be very interesting to see who performs better in the years to come between EZE and Green.

I may be wrong, but I don't think he's really a sub 4.5 kind of back.

To reference Ross Fulton's breakdown of the running backs last season, Carlos Hyde is really, really good at running these plays:

Rod Smith, Bri'onte Dunn and Warren Ball are all big backs that will excel at running power plays into the middle of the defense. You can throw Derrick Green into that category as well.

However, none of those players have the quickness and elusiveness to make defenses pee their pants on this play:

Running into and over defenders works great on the interior power plays. While it works okay on the edge stretch runs, it does not make for a home run threat out of the backfield.

The Buckeyes are loaded with players that can run into and over defenders. They are not loaded with players that can be truly scary when they get into the open field on the edge of a defense.

That is what Urban Meyer is trying to fix in the 2013 recruiting class. Derrick Green wouldn't fix that.

Ezekiel Elliott, Jalin Marshall and Dontre Wilson do.
