Directed Blood Donation Urgently Needed

UPDATE

After talking to a couple of people it seems the best way to get a blood donation directly donated as replacement blood FOR MATT is to donate blood at a KAISER PERMANENTE donation location. They put his name, and a barcode, on the bag of blood then and there. I did a google search for "kaiser permanente blood donor center" and discovered specific locations in and around California. Just find your local one and give them a call. Remember to have Matt's full name, birthdate, and his hospital location (Kaiser, L.A.) as given out in the article.

Matt was visited today by a friend of his who let me know he is tired, in pain, but is in good spirits. Thanks again, for your replies and kind words. For updates you can check this tumblr if you are interested.

So, on top of being diagnosed with the blood disorder he also has masses in his lungs that are not symptomatic of the disease. He underwent surgery yesterday. Here is an update.

"Preliminary results on the lung biopsy came back, and no tumor cells were found, so it mostly likely NOT cancer which is good news. They are still waiting for stains to come back on various infection/inflammation causes. There may be an update on that tomorrow.
He?s feeling much better, and has been able to sleep most of the day. Tomorrow is looking like a good day for visitors."

When you hear about such a young guy going through something like that it really makes you appreciate your own good health even more.

So true. Luckily, some good news, his lung masses are not cancerous. Hopefully we keep hearing good news from here on out.

My recent experience with a friend rushed to the hospital (brain bleed)was not good. The hospital, a major one was a cluster [censored] of ineptitude and the friend was lucky to have survived. It's best for anyone going into a hospital right now to have an "advocate" for them to monitor the incompetence going on in treatment 24-7 till they leave. Get out of the hospital as soon as possible. The system is broken and dangerous!
OC best wishes for your friend and it sounds like the news has been good!

"The doctors came in with some great news today; the material in Matt?s lungs is not cancerous, and no further surgery is needed. It?s an infection, and is treatable. Tomorrow every pulmonary doctor in the hospital will be coming together to discuss Matt?s case. They have said he?s most likely going to be able to go home within a week."

Thanks to everyone who commented, gave blood because this thread reminded you, gave blood in the past and may continue to give blood. Please continue to consider becoming a bone marrow donor if you are eligible.

He's GOING HOME today! Victory for Zim, er Barkode!

While this probably means he is "out of the woods" for a little while, he still needs care, meds, and a bone marrow transplant. It is only his lungs that are well enough to release him from current hospitalization but that is still AWESOME. Thanks to those you lent me support via PM. I appreciate you all.
