COLUMBUS -- When Ohio State renews its rivalry with Penn State this weekend, Don Matheney will be a part the matchup for the first time. A walk-on defensive lineman for the Buckeyes, Matheney didn't travel to Happy Valley for the 2009 game.

The Lancaster native, who has two tackles this season, recently spoke to the Eagle-Gazette about the Nittany Lions, his second year as a Buckeye and life as a walk-on.

Question: What's been the focus during practice this week?

Answer: We've been trying to fine-tune ourselves and making those corrections to our techniques. We know it's going to be a physical game, especially with everything that happened with JoePa getting his 400th win. They're going to be all fired up.

November is going to be a tough part of the season. We want to try and get off on the right foot.

Q: What was the transition from Holy Cross, where you were a starter, to Ohio State like?

A: When I was at Holy Cross, we ran a similar scheme, but I'm definitely starting to ease into things a little more. When I first started here, they were using the same names at Holy Cross, but they had different meanings. Now I'm kind of adjusted and used to our playbooks.

At Holy Cross, my position was a little bit different. I think what's most important now is how we end up doing as a team.
